If you are not sure, we recommend the 6", which will provide more zinc exposure and ions to protect the roof.ROOF PROTECTION THAT CAN LAST 20+ YEARS with RotoMetals Zinc Armor. Please do not pressure wash your roof shingles. It might not seem like a major thing, but that rough granule surface is very important to the function and durability of them. I have the same issue on my house with a half shaded roof. Great for keeping the energy bills down in the summer, but bad for moss build up.

Get a spray bottle with 50/50 bleach water mixture and spray it on there to start. But, the only way to not have to do this each year is to install a metal zinc strip at the top of the roof, like this https://www.amazon.com/Zinc-Roof-Armor

It's fairly easy to install, even for a beginner dyi'er. That is as long as your comfortable being on a roof.

You'll need the zinc strip, tin snips, good quality construction adhesive, and a caulk gun(for the adhesive). Right below the ridge vent single (the one lapping the roofs ridge) insert the zinc strip about an inch and secure with the adhesive. Only needs to be done above the areas you having the moss appear. And that's it :)

Now when it rains, water will run over the strip and carry zinc particulates down the roof, preventing the growth of future moss.
