Amazon has lots of options for the side snap shirt for babies.

I just added this set of 4 to my registry:

Several people have recommended side-snap baby shirts for while the cord stump is still attached, so I have ordered a few. I can see how they wouldn't tug against the stump like a onesie would, but I also see lots of people dress their newborns in whatever, so I don't think it's totally necessary either. I plan to use the side-snap shirts and gowns for the first few weeks.

These are the ones I ordered.

My 3 week old daughter likes to have her arms out of the swaddle sometimes at night and we have this same problem. I've been putting her in these under the swaddle and flipping the cuffs down to cover her hands. Works great.

You can. We also used kimono tops because I hated the idea of pulling a onesie over his head. (He had a big hematoma on top of his head, so we were extra careful, but even so I probably would have been intimidated!)

I've gotten most of my son's clothes off Amazon. Rompers and basic white gerber onesies when he was an infant, and more recently simple tshirts and leggings. I love this brand of t-shirt - it's so goddamn soft, like your favorite old band t-shirt you've worn and washed a million times. I just buy 5 or 6 in different colors of the short sleeve and a few of the baseball style shirts for my son in whatever size he's wearing. Been doing this for 6-9 months, 9-12 months, and currently 12-18 months, and I'll do it again for the next size. Same thing with pants, I buy one pack of this set and one pack of this set and one pair of each of these Children's Place Skinny Jeans (4 pairs total) and call it a day. Without sales his wardrobe is around $150 per size.

I love my baby in these. They run super huge & may have more snaps than you are willing to deal with, so don't order enmasse to start. We often skip the pants, so no advice there.

Thank you! The owls are from Zutano- it's a kimono style shirt, so it was easy to put on before we felt comfortable squeezing a shirt on over her little head. Pricey, but sooo cute and the fabric is really nice. http://www.amazon.com/Zutano-Print-Kimono-Top-PARENT/dp/B002OL29LG/ref=cts_ap_2_cts

This doesn't answer all your questions but I got these for the first couple weeks until the umbilical cord stump falls off.

  1. Kimono style shirts/onesies for newborns and babies who don't have head control yet. Its so hard to hold their floppy head, and body, and try to put on an outfit over their heads with only 2 hands! With kimono styles you can open it up, put it down, and lay baby on top of it and just snap it all together. I had my newborn in one of these almost exclusively.

  2. Some type of baby carrier. I've used the baby bjorn and ergo and my son has loved both. Not only is it great for things like shopping, but also around the house when he wants to be held and I want both hands to get things done

  3. NoseFrida - its a relief when you know your baby can breathe well, and this is less traumatic and more effective than a bulb syringe.

How many babies does it take to paint a house?
