Rug Beaters are fun

It's much bigger then it looks and really satisfying to take in two hands and just beat some ass. Has a very distinct sound and feel - loud but a bit stingy.

Never actually used one to beat eggs when we had one growing up. Used it all the time when making cake/cupcakes or brownies. It was just as much of a pain to clean as the handheld electric mixer, and I didn't need to find an available outlet in our small kitchen, or get out the stepladder to get the electric mixer off of it's very high shelf. Plus, I could give it to a younger sister and say "here, you mix" when they wanted to help, which I couldn't do with the electric one until they were older.

Interesting the link I found on amazon looks like the gears are plastic. The review says the handle is plastic.

The small hand mixer copied the hand cranked "egg beater" design. The meshing blades compensate for low torque and help move product through the bowl.

Large stand mixers compare better to hand tools. The implement (whisk, dough hook or paddle) moves around the bowl much more like one uses equivalent manual tools.

I recommend a firm and constant beating--as well as the addition of a leavening agent, such as baking soda or yeast.

there are various accessories available to assist with this as well... http://www.amazon.com/OXO-Good-Grips-Egg-Beater/dp/B004VLYQFO
