Having looked up that kind of boomerang on Amazon they are literally supposed to be bendable. They have instructions for tuning the flight by bending and straightening them in different ways. OPs being a dumbass.

What he is using is a little foam Nerf boomerang. They are designed to be thrown indoors and cause relatively little damage. I had one as a kid, and as kids do, I did find a way to break things with it. But in teh hands of a trained astronaut I am sure they could safely use it somewhere like that.

You would throw a hunting boomerang which weighs more than 500g and could crack a skull.

Apparently it's an American toy called a Roomerang.

This is the exact product shown. I want to say you are correct and also maybe in correct. The video shows the man catching the Boomerang. It is entirely flat. However, the top review suggests bending the blades occasionally.

So, this may have been too much for the blades, but it will recover.

The best very short distance boomerang I've got recently was a 4mm Spinner by Kendall Davis. You can get them on his website. His yard stick too if you're looking for super short distance. If you're looking on Amazon, the Crested Butte by Colorado is a good short distance boomerang. The Mantis is great too. If you don't mind a plastic boomerang, the ProFly is still a great short distance one that's easy to throw and tune (also available on Kendall Davis' site). My advice to you is to spend some money and get at least 3 or 4 different boomerangs, because they all behave differently from each other and you'll probably have an easier time with 1 of those 4 when you're starting, then you can figure out how to adjust your technique for the others that you have. Also don't buy mass produced boomerangs from big toy brands. The best ones are hand made by people and they aren't really expensive.

How big is your back yard? Short distance for a boomerang can still be pretty big. You need space. Especially when they don't behave like you're expecting (which will be often for a beginner). None of these will float if they make their way into that pond.
