Powerlifting - I use both converses for deadlifts and squat shoes like these for better ankle mobility when squatting. Those types of shoes also work great if weightlifting (clean and jerk; snatches).
Squat-proof leggings/shorts. Just test these before you buy them. I don't like to splurge on them cause I'm cheap, but I found Forever21 to be pretty awesome in the athletic dept. I also heard good things about Old Navy.
Chalk - most gyms don't allow it, so I buy a liquid chalk and wipe the bar afterwards. No mess.

Any advice for removing an awful, awful smell from sneakers? I've had these for about a year, and I've tried every trick and every product and there's still a residual smell that won't come out. I've scrubbed them with vinegar and baking soda, used 3 different products made for removing smells from sneakers, aired them out for days outside in the sun, put them in the freezer for several days, and they still stink. Never had this issue before and I'm stumped at this point. My last resort is putting them through the washer, which I think might ruin them, but at this point they are kind of ruined for me anyway.

I frequently (like most of the time) wear heels and I don't have ankle pain, but I do have inflexible ankles now. It makes squats a bit tough. Because of that I have some lifting shoes that have a bit of a raised heel. That helped a ton. I've got some similar to these Inov-8 ones. Having the slight higher heel but that's still really solid helped a ton.
I'm a big fan of Asics. These shoes are my go to for HIIT.

Don't know why it says "women's" in the link, and men in the product title, but anyway... I'm on a budget, but my tall ass could use some proper lifting shoes. They sound perfect for me, but I'd like to get the opinion of some peers I can trust as opposed to random Amazon reviews.
Ryka studio shoes! I鈥檝e been doing Zumba for years, and everything has hurt my feet (wide feet, low arches, narrow heel), except for these. Yup yup, just take it slow and listen to your body. If you get into it then one you know you're going to continue then I recommend getting some squat shoes. I think it might be helpful to get a foam roller right off the bat for dem horrible newbie DOMS, but other than that you shouldn't need anything really to get started.
Someone recommended Sabo to me. I'd be interested to know if anyone has personal experience with them.

Skinners are by far the thinnest on the market I know of. They're basically socks and are much thinner than Vibrams. The only problem is they make all my other barefoot shoes feel like clogs.
So I'm looking for a versatile shoe for lifting and other exercises. I've been using my old converse so far, but they're really dingy and since I've had them since middle school, they just don't feel like exercise shoes. Thoughts on either of these?

Squat in high top Chuck Taylors. Getting these for my birthday in July and I'm so excited. I love loud and obnoxious lifting shoes.
Deadlift in wrestling shoes. Like I said...I just LOVE me some loud shoes :)
I tried using these for squats but I already have a tendency to fall forward and it really screwed me up. I also tried these but hated them personally. They just weren't comfortable. I know LOTS of people who lift in them though.
I swear by Ryka- it's the only shoe I've worn for class for years. Right now I have the Ryka Dynamic 2. Reasonable price for a shoe that lasts me a pretty long time (doing 3-4 classes a week).

Vibram fan here! I run in those silly looking five-toed shoes and i love it! I wear the KMD Evo Cross Training shoe. I switched over to barefoot shoes due to my flat feet after spending many years in shoes with tons of arch support. My orthopedic doctor used to always recommend me walking barefoot when possible when i was a kid so i figured these shoes would be worth a shot. After wearing them for a few weeks i noticed my arches had stopped hurting completely when i wore shoes without arch support (work flats) and i am slowly fixing my duck feet as i become more aware of the way i step. I also feel more stable in them then my old shoes when doing floor exercises. I transitioned into them fairly quickly, in about a week i was running 2 miles in them just fine. they feel super weird at first but after a while, they are fantastic. on the Vibram site you can see how the sizing works and how these should fit and you can also look up and see if there is a store near you that carries them so you can try them on in person to figure out your size. Or you can do what i did and get them off amazon and plan on returning them if you dont like them lol
I wear 8.5 in shoes, generally 9 in running shoes. My vibrams are a womens 8 and fit like a glove.
