Primo XL owner here. the firebox divider has a slot directly in the middle of the cast iron grate that holds up the coals at the bottom; you cannot offset it.

if you're concern is efficiency, i wouldn't worry about it. you got a couple of options...

  • fill 1/2 the firebox up to the top using divider. reuse unspent coals on next cook. i do this all the time.
  • use less coals in that half, so you have to budget. i don't like this option because if you miscalculate, you have to pull all the meat and apparatus off to add more coal.

that said, i find the firebox divider comes in handy most when grilling on the primo. it has exceptional indirect and direct zones when using it in that configuration... makes 2-zone grilling real easy and fun.

my usual setup for a low-and-slow on the primo leaves out the firebox divider completely. i fill the entire firebox up, use the D-Plates and my BBQGuru.

as for how many "strips," maybe i'm not familiar with what meat you're referring to... not bacon i assume. give me some more info and i'd be happy to help.

lastly, primo has an amazing community forum if you give it a quick google. before i bought mine I lurked there for a while... helped clear up a lot of questions I had about the product.

    good luck!

You can probably find the "diffusers" by searching for Kenmore "flavorizer bars" for your model - Like so
