I had an issue like this with an old washer. It was some moldy build up. I bought some washer cleaner, I think it was a Tide brand, that I threw into an empty load with hot water. Helped for a few weeks at a time.
There are some at home fixes with vinegar and baking soda, but I really can’t stand the smell of vinegar so I didn’t try it.

We had a foul smell coming from washing machine as well, used these and now its gone. cleaner!
Also try running a load with HE laundry cleaner. You can find them at Home Depot or order from amazon

On Sanitary Mode, once a month. Also never shut the door to the washer when you finish a load, that molds the seals. In fact, if it smells moldy now, take an old sock and run under the edge of the seal, then take a qtip to the seal drains at the bottom edge. (I bought a used he set and my first load was ruined. Cleaned it and now it’s fine)

Most of them are under $10 so try a few out. We've used affresh and generally leave the door open post-wash. In addition, bleach, vinegar, etc. Try one thing at a time and do a couple of rinse cycles after each to see what helps. All the advice in here is good.

Looks like detergent residue has been accumulating, which has happened to us too.
If there is a clean cycle on your machine, use it. If there's a huge buildup, you may have to use it more than once.
If your machine doesn't have a clean cycle, try one of the specialty washing machine cleaner products. Tide makes one as do several other vendors.
