I agree that "How To Cook Everything" is a good reference guide for complete beginners and those with gaps in cooking knowledge.

It might be a bit over your head at this point, but if you truly want to understand cooking and what's happening when you do it try "On Food And Cooking" by Harold McGee.

For Asian you might like...

"Every Grain Of Rice" by Fuchsia Dunlop (or any of her books)

"Japanese Soul Cooking" by Tadashi Ono

"Ivan Ramen..." by Ivan Orkin (Good for ramen and other japanese-ish food.)

"Momofuku" by David Chang (Really good mix of general Asian flavors)

Other books that might interest you:

"Irish Pantry" by Noel McMeel

"The Lee Bros. Simple Fresh Southern" - Matt Lee and Ted Lee

"Real Cajun" by Donald Link

"Authentic Mexican" by Rick Bayless

"Fabio's Italian Kitchen" by Fabio Viviani

For Vegetarian try anything by Alice Waters or David Tanis.

Two good things to come from my crappy day of having my cinema jaunt ruined by the presance of loud-ass childers: I discovered an awesome new salad bar in my local mall. Had the following combo: Piri-piri chicken, avocado, feta cheese, red onion, mixed leaves and light mayo, washed down with a pot of matcha tea. Easily one of the loveliest salads I'd had in a very long time.
I also finally picked up a book that I'd been anticipating since last September- Recipes For A Nervous Breakdown by Sophie White. I read a single-chapter extract of the book in a newspaper a while ago and it really resonated with me so I'm delighted that I finally got a copy. Hardback too! Looking forward to getting stuck into a decent book. Been struggling to finish Amy Schumer's biography. I find the girl hilarious, sure, but damnit Amy, do you REALLY need to talk about your clunge so much? Bit off-putting but I'm about 2/3rds of the way through it and I don't wish to give up.

Also, this coming Saturday, I'm off to my first epic gig of 2017- Avenged Sevenfold with support by Disturbed. I AM SO FUCKING EXCITED OMFG. More into Disturbed than anything else and it's their first time playing Dublin (AFAIK) so I'm super hyped for this gig. Hellava way to spend Saturday night!

I just had a Guinness float for the first time the other night. Incredible. (from The Country Cooking of Ireland)
