Do yourself a favor and pick up this ram cart for the Saturn. Its 30 bucks with prime shipping and it has the 4 mb ram expansion (certain games require it) and it allows you to play Japanese games which is a HUGE market of extra games. Even if you dont speak Japanese, a lot of games such as fighters and shmups are pretty simple to go through.

As for the game and price I am jealous. Ive been wanting guardian heroes for the Saturn, and you got it for a fantastic price. Saturn is a really fun system to collect for, Its just pricy.

RGB out through SCART will look the best, especially with a good upscaler like OSSC or Framemeister.

If you want to avoid SCART probably try an Saturn S-Video Cable and run it into a Retro Tink that doubles the lines, like others have mentioned.

Getting the best video from these old consoles can turn into a huge trip into the rabbit hole of cables and upscalers, best of luck to you!

u/Inzoreno · 3 pointsr/retrogaming

Yes, but it does have a cartridge slot on the back. So someone made a cartridge that allows you to boot import games: https://www.amazon.com/Action-Replay-4M-Plus-enhancement-sega/dp/B008FPMBNG

Search ebay for "Saturn controller" check: for parts/not working. Like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Sega-Saturn-JUNK-GREY-Controller-Pad-HSS-0101-Not-Working-JAPAN-Video-Game/311760458659?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D40130%26meid%3Dfbfb91b55b394d9cb3864912efa421c2%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26mehot%3Dag%26sd%3D122448111952

Then buy this https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BFVAV0/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Swap out the boards and you're good to go. For best authenticity, desolder the shoulder buttons off the original controller and remount them on the USB board. But it will work either way.

Yes, it's very much worth it. If you're on a budget I recommend the following:

SCART Cable:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00UKLIY3E/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Scaler Box:

I use these with my Sony 4K and they work great. Very sharp, good sound and no noticeable lag.

This is the cheopo route I use on my Japan Model 2. I'm happy the picture with it except the lack of scart shielding on the cable leaves audio noise on my LCD, on my plasma is noise free though. The cable is region neutral with a 175ohm fuse I checked so it's not the cheap 75ohm that sometimes don't register rgb mode. This obviously isn't ideal for input lag and scanlines.

Yes if you have something like this.

u/Stifu · 2 pointsr/RetroPie

The Saturn controller sounds great in general, but I wish it was wireless. This is especially important on the Pi, since just pulling on the controller could pull your entire Pi, as it's so small and lightweight. But if only adults play it, I guess you could manage.

I bought 2 USB Saturn controllers from Sega, and they were excellent. But then I tried brandless knockoffs, and they broke very fast. I haven't tried this one from Retrolink, but reviews seem to indicate it's also far from Sega quality. :(

Amazon, someone on here posted about it a few days ago. Here is the link

u/bentika · 1 pointr/crtgaming

Yeah. I'm gonna plug my scart to bnc adapter here tho!

https://github.com/bentika/Open-Source-Sync-Stripper

For 10 bucks in parts you can have a passthrough scart to bnc adapter. Fun to make yourself too.

Then you just need a $10 Snes, PS1, Dreamcast, or Saturncable.

So I guess I have all my consoles broken out to BNC since I use an extron hah.

But yeah theres all the connectors! just gotta get em to bnc.

Go to a Dollar store and buy the battery there. It's just a normal 2032 flat cell and they usually come in three packs. Since it's such a slow drain, even the cheap brands last a long time, at least a year.

That controller's O.K. I have a couple myself though I prefer either the 3D analog pad or the Model 2 controller; which I just very recently bought for the first time.

Also you didn't look at the shipping, which costs more then the controller asking price!

Here's some links for a controller and things to buy now / eventually.

Look here for the same controller you linked

Try here for a 3D pad

Get one of these!

Get a 4in1 RAM cart Here or Here

More in the future:

Get a Scart cable

And a Scart to HDMI converter

For best picture that's upscaled RGB and will work nicely with any HDTV

To play backups you can do the swap disk trick but first you must know...

If you have a Saturn model 1 with oval buttons and a disk access light; which can indicate when to swap the disk

Or

If you have the Saturn model 2 with round buttons and no access light. The swap trick is a bit harder on this model due to this and increased security but still doable.

Watch Youtube to learn the swap trick on either:

The Saturn Model 1 Swap Trick

Or

The Saturn Model 2 Swap Trick

Just remember not to rip and plow the disk on and off, there's grooved in spaces to get under the disk and you can use left / right leverage with your hand to nicely pop it off. If done properly with minimal force you should be able to do this for a very long time as I have.

You can now boot any burned game for the system. Just watch the country codes on downloads Ie (U), (J), (E). Without the 4in1 cart you just use this software to change the country code of the .ISO.

Grab downloadable games at Emuparadise and TheISOzone

Explore the North American release list for games to find online and most certainly explore the Japanese release list which is more then four times the size, with tons of great games never released here.

That's it. Enjoy the Saturn!

There are still brand new ones available for sale on Amazon.

u/dedpoolz · 1 pointr/gamecollecting

Don't forget a way to play imports I'd recommend the Action Replay for the Sega Saturn. Also is a memory card of sorts and lets you play the awesome 1 meg or 4 meg ram games. The ram cart only import games include fighters from snk and capcom, which are nearly arcade perfect. The only other way to make a saturn region free is by installing a region free switch

u/wiikendwarrior84 · 1 pointr/retrogaming

Import games are relatively cheap. Probably cause in Japan the Saturn saw much more success. So provided you are good with import gaming it’s worth it in my opinion. Just be sure to get one of these .

Edit: I should specify. Import versions of games that were released here tend to be a lot cheaper comparatively. Games that are exclusively imports will probably still fetch a large price.

u/TempusCavus · 1 pointr/SegaSaturn

I use this 4-in-1 For that you need to do one disk swap to reflash the cart with pseudosaturn, but then you can play imports and back-ups. it's not hard to do yourself and you may save some cash

I haven't had any issues on my japanese saturn playing backups imports or US games with that method. (I have played Panzer Dragoon Zwei and legend this way) The switch on the one you linked sounds cool for switching between the ram modes, but very few games would need you to be able to do that.

Aside from it's fairly lackluster build quality, [this] (http://www.amazon.com/Retrolink-Saturn-Classic-Controller-Black/dp/B002BFVAV0) controller has done well by me for quite a while. YMMV

u/Socapex · 1 pointr/shmups

https://www.amazon.ca/Retro-Bit-Compatible-Controller-Black-Sega-Saturn/dp/B002BFVAV0 ?

Personally I use PS4, but it ain't cheap and simple ;)

u/Demarcon · 1 pointr/dreamcast

I currently use a Saturn stick with the total control 3. I'm only using it for shmups, but the whole setup cost me around $40.
