Or she'll alter the modest clothing her mother buys for her into something more skimpy or whatever. I knew a girl in middle/high school who would do that. One morning she gets dropped off by her mom and she was wearing this pretty paisley print long sleeved button up shirt. As soon as her mom drove off, she stomped to the bathroom bitching about it, and proceeded to cut the sleeves off with scissors from her backpack and undid the buttons to tie it up and make it look kind of like this.

Darn shame. It was such a pretty shirt.

I have a little mustard-colored shrug sweater (like this but with buttons) that I loved wearing over dresses in the winter. Just caught some pictures of myself wearing it over a navy dress and it looks like someone just highlighted my boobs. It went in the goodwill pile the next day :(

Something like this would take it from a summer to fall/winter look

you can also try a lace material! I bought this off of amazon for my wedding and it received so many compliments! it was better than sewing sleeves for sure. my dress was strapless as well.

I golf sometimes (casually, I'm very bad at it), my favorite thing to wear is a golf or tennis dresses, which you can easily get for <$150! I just picked up the Adidas Parley Dress for golfing. Golf tends to be a little more conservative than tennis so if I'm wearing something collarless like this Under Armour tennis tank dress I'll pop on an inexpensive little bolero from Amazon to feel more appropriate. Polo shirts are also fine, tucked into khaki pants or a skirt/skort. Any athletic shoes are fine, and don't forget a hat or visor and sunglasses!

Okay here are my sweater suggestions, I have a kinda cutesy and a plain option here:

I'm making mine! I'm going to be Lagertha, SO is going to be Ragnar. My throw-together costume isn't going to be show-exact, but I'm pretty sure my group of friends will know exactly who I'm playing.

After shopping around online, actual Vikings costumes run a damn pretty penny - and I only have ugly ones. So, I'm improvising.

This corset and this bolero are my choices for replicating Legertha's tunic-type shirt/sleeves and her armor/vest. Bracers I'm still working on, but I might end up making them myself. I might find a tunic or large brown/tan t shirt and chop/adjust it accordingly to have the bottom coming out of the corset to mimic the tunic since I've not been able to find a good actual tunic top that I like.

These boots were too adorable to pass up, and then I have brown leggings as well.

My company that I work for receives supplies on pallets, so I'm getting one or two to break down and fix into a shield. Painted, of course. Throw a few brown belts on my waist, though the corset that I'm buying actually has sufficient buckling.

And then there is her sword and sheath, which I'm still pondering.

Finished up, of course, with youtube tutorials on Lagertha's hair style. I like that one just because it's easy for someone who doesn't do a lot with her hair very often. I think I can manage this one.

As far as for my SO and being Ragnar ... that's a whole different ballgame that I will be sorting out and figuring out on what to do starting this weekend!

Perhaps a black bolero?

There are many different sleeve lengths as well as fabrics to choose from.

I really think it would be easier just to get her a long dress with some sort of cover up, like a kimono. https://www.amazon.com/MixMatchy-Womens-Jersey-Sleeve-Cardigan/dp/B07MTQ8CDX/ref=sr_1_12?crid=3D4NQQB5GYK7A&keywords=purple+kimono+plus+size&qid=1564874927&s=apparel&sprefix=purple+kimono%2Cfashion%2C216&sr=1-12

I'm also sure that if you contacted Azazie they could get something in the Purple Regency specifically. They do have coverups. https://www.azazie.com/products/azazie-gina-chiffon-wrap?color=dark-navy

If she absolutely positively must have pants, I'd probably try for separates. Like, if she's plus, here are some plus-sized purple pants: https://www.amazon.com/Rekucci-Curvy-Comfort-Straight-Control/dp/B0773R2NR8/ref=sr_1_32?qid=1564874662&refinements=p_n_size_browse-vebin%3A2343360011&s=apparel&sr=1-32

Maybe with this as a topper: https://www.amazon.com/Rekucci-Womens-Rounded-Stretch-X-Large/dp/B06VVR32GB?ref_=w_bl_sl_ap_ap_web_9240391011

I don't know if those are the exact same purples or not, but they are from the same company, so there's at least a fighting chance. She could wear a white shirt with it.

Can someone help me figure out what kind of cardigan would look good with this black high-neck long and loose tank top? I want something lightweight just to cover my upper arms. I was thinking of this small bolero shrug cardigan but I wanted a 2nd opinion since I'm so bad at fashion... I was also debating this kimono style but I dunno...

It's really hard for me with my size..body..to find cute clothes that is summer-y without bare shoulders etc. so I stock up on these when I can fine some that fit. I have 3 colors on my list, they were sitting in my cart, so if pink isn't one you'd want to buy me then there's black and white too :3 but I just got a cute little brown dress recently I can't wear until I find a decent cover up so I pick this one :3

Actually, that's pretty nice. I don't think I saw that one. (the others largely had full length fitted sleeves and looked both boring and uncomfortable.)

What I like:

-the sleeves are nice, I really like the flare. Though, I'm not decided between full length sleeves or something shorter. I'd like above the elbow with these just as much (easy fix)
-it's rather Victorian

What I don't like:

-the scalloped edging, especially around the collar.
-because it's rather Victorian it doesn't tie into the punk vibe without being modified
-probably no getting around this one but because it's all lace, it's totally floral. I LOVE the idea of lace in general but actually don't like the floral patterns in 98% of lace fabric so I'd at least like it to be toned down by incorporating solid fabric.
-also with full lace I'll probably still be cold for a full dinner & movie date with a/c.

Even though that's a lot of cons I still like this style. The sleeves do so much for it. I might just get it and have as a sort of semi-formal backup.

I actually had just purchased this, even though I said I didn't want cap sleeves, but the ruffles make this so cute, and they're longer short sleeves: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07DHCDKZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_bNEoDb40MK9NJ

I plan to find matching fabric with the front to create lacing panels on the back like this: https://images.app.goo.gl/7HHLBrZviHjtCUiH8

But also, the front ties on this thing are so bad. My first idea is to see if it lays okay without them and remove them, but does anyone else have a more stylish suggestion? Just anything creative.

So we can get more sense of direction - what is wrong and what is right about (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01N9QFHRL/)[this one]?

u/zylophone · 1 pointr/helpmedress

I think olive would pair pretty well with the shoes and dress, perhaps something with a more open weave like this?

For a bag you have some freedom to go with something embellished, but I think anything that's in a darker brown or gold, maybe with some texture to it.

Jewelry wise I think a chain bracelet might be cute or a longer earring like these. Have fun!

u/stylzoo · 1 pointr/PlusSize

I think our super soft and comfy plus size bolero is a great solution to your problem! It is highly rated in Amazon and is Amazon Prime Elegible!

Less than $20 too

They're a bit dated, and since it's not really popular, it's tricky to find the right look. Lately they tend to be used mainly for formal events, like this or this, or way too casual like this. It might not be too bad if it's a bit longer and jacket-like such as this.

Buy normal dress and add a long sleeved shrug. Though if your dances are anything like my high school dances were like you will die of heat exhaustion.
