This Book answers your question perfectly on pages 152-158. I cannot scan my copy, so it would be $10-20 well spent for you to pick up a copy for yourself. It's an old book (mine has a 1949 copyright date) but aside from changes in brand names and some advances in synthetic materials, 95% of the info in it is still applicable. Using an O/A torch hasn't changed a whole lot in the last 60 years. The book has a few really cool tricks of the trade in it that they just don't teach anymore. Also has plans/ideas for "100 simple oxy-acetylene projects you can make" so it encourages you to practice with your newly acquired skills. It's one of my favorite books on oxy-acetylene processes and it gives the clearest explanations of all the welding books that I have in my personal library. Highly recommended reading.

I could walk you through it, but it would take me a few pages of typing. Save my fingers, just get the book instead.

I recommend the Lincoln Electric Procedure Manual of Arc Welding, note, I am also trained as a Mechanical Engineer, but do mainly highly specialized Industrial Engineering these days (System Safety and Explosive Safety) ...https://www.amazon.com/Procedure-Handbook-Welding-Lincoln-Foundation/dp/9990022968
