Oceana Grill is open for brunch. Check to see if the other recommendations are open for brunch. Others' recommendations may be good restaurants but they might not be open for brunch. Many restaurants are only open for lunch and dinner (open after 11am). Being open for brunch means that they're open before 11am.

Ritz Carlton has the best beignets. They have 3 dipping sauces (chocolate, vanilla, and raspberry), are crispy on the outside & fluffy on the inside. Their coffee is strong and rich. Absolutely delicious! Best of all, no lines like Cafe du Monde!

Like I said, if you're wanting something that you know going in isn't going to be serious, you'll enjoy yourself. I haven't been on a ghost tour myself, but friends of mine have and it's somewhat spooky historical facts mixed with a little embellishment. I personally don't believe in ghosts so I have a hard time believing somewhere is truly haunted. I think people enjoy that embellishment mixed with the creepiness of the history here, and that's why you have such a large ghost/cemetery/vampire/haunted tourism industry.
Instead? I mean I really wouldn't know. You can visit several of the haunted places yourself like Madame John's Legacy (free), the Jimani is a bar that originally housed the Upstairs Bar where a fire killed dozens of gay men (also fascinating reading is the response to the fire), and the Pharmacy Museum is pretty dope but I think it's $10 to get in?
This book also used to sell pretty well when I worked at Barnes and Noble for people who liked creepy history etc.
One of the things I like most about living here is not needing a car. There are certainly some places I avoid biking to/through, especially at night, out of concern for my safety. If I need to go there, I just use lyft, or get a ride from a friend.
Someone else mentioned that there are no bike lanes - this is not true. There are bike lanes on some roads, but not as many as I personally would like. That said, there are a lot of pretty narrow streets, especially in the quarter/marigny/bywater that simply don't have room for bike lanes.
One recommendation I would make is to get a bike airhorn for the moments when drivers aren't paying attention/don't care about bicyclists/aren't exactly sober, which seems to happen a lot here. This has saved me on quite a few occassions.
I wasn't able to find your answer in the limited amount of free time I had tonight, but you may want to pick up a copy of John Churchill Chase's Frenchmen Desire Good Children And Other Streets Of New Orleans and see if it has some clues. If his book doesn't tell you, ask THNOC to see if they know. If you find out, post a reply to this comment so I can stop trying to dig the answer up and satisfy my own curiosity.
I can tell you that the street was originally named Jeanne St, after Jeanne Macarty (see also: Bartholomew Macarty's plantation - he wound up with Bartholomew St), and was renamed to Alvar in 1894.
If you have a sedan, buy one of these immediately. You will never get a camera and the chance of actually gstting phlled over for it is minuscule.

I seen one similar to this used overseas and was quite shocked. I got a legit snoball. They put them in a bowl for some reason though..eh...
Edit: I just realized that bitch is huge, my bad. Just go on Amazon and look up Hawaiian shaved ice. The one that I seen used was just the size of like a mixer.
How about this? She loves art stuff but she's never expressed any admiration (or hatred) towards the cathedral.
