Thanks for your reply :) So, I had my herbs planted in a small elevated garden like this one. I've got a variety of herbs in it, but only had one parsley and one dill plant. The caterpillars ate the dill really fast, and now all 22 of them are on one fairly small parsley plant (4" pot). The location of the herb bed gets mostly full sun throughout the day and we have birds nests nearby. I read that the caterpillars do best out of full sun (and obviously do best when not eaten by birds), so I was able to get a glass aquarium with a screen lid. I put the potted parsley in the aquarium along with another new parsley plant and some twigs for climbing. The aquarium idea was a cheaper alternative to building some sort of net contraption over the herb bed, I just hope it's an o.k. idea. I brought them inside because I don't want the birds to get them (or the rain to drown them because now I've essentially put them in a bucket). Crossing my fingers that I can take care of these things!

I grew tomatoes last year and found hornworms on them too! Unfortunately some insect laid eggs on it or something?? I don't remember exactly, but there were white egg-like things all over them.

If I focus anywhere past the center focal point, then I like you said, the clarity sucks with my lens.

Wow, I never knew about Kenko tubes! I know my lens isn't anywhere near as good as the $1,000+ ones so I found this Kenko tube on amazon: [would you recommend?](https://www.amazon.com/Kenko-Extension-Tubes-Digital-Cameras/dp/B000JG88JU/ref=sr_1_fkmr2_2? s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1494113957&sr=1-2-fkmr2&keywords=nikon+kenko+tube) If I focus anywhere past the center focal point, the clarity sucks with my lens. Thank you for the kenko tube suggestion. It's something that is of great interest to me as I like taking macro photos.

One thing that keeps going through my mind as I shoot butterflies and other hasty creatures is, "You miss every shot you don't take." I keep fearing that if I don't hurry and focus, I'd miss another really great frame. I suppose I'd just need to practice more, but your right. I can't give up quality. :)

There is an Amazon merchant who sells some butterfly wing earrings made from insects that died of natural causes. I bought some for my sister and she loves them. Their Monarch option is currently unavailable, but if you look up their store they should have several other species.

Are you using a DSLR? I recently picked up this macro lens on Craigslist and it was such a huge upgrade for me.

Unfortunately I bought it at the end of summer and now there's no butterflies to take pictures of though haha.
