  1. Your macro setup with the Olloclip 3-in-1 gives you 7/14/21x macro with respect to the sensor size of an iPhone 6s.

  2. You purchased a Nikon APS-C dSLR. However, Nikon doesn't make a 70S. Did you mean D70S? The D70S is ancient and shitty by modern standards. Get a Nikon D3300 if you want to get a cheap camera with the greatest image quality per dollar. Otherwise, if you can sacrifice a little bit of image quality, get a used Nikon D7000, it's a better value camera overall in terms of non-image quality features.

  3. You should buy the Tamron 90mm f/2.8 Macro or the Tokina 10mm f/2.8 Macro lens. Those are about as cheap as you can get for an actual macro lens. Any cheaper and you'll get into the territory where they slap a "macro" label on a shitty lens (like your 18-200 superzoom) and call it a day.

The Tokina 100mm macro is stunning.

You wouldn't have any autofocus with a D3200 because the D3200 has no screw motor. You don't need it as most macro shots are leaning in or away by a millimeter.

It would give you good working room. You can get the flash around the front of the lens pretty easy. Bugs wouldn't be too sacred of you because your not right in their faces. Set it at f/22 and shoot away. It goes down to f/64 but f/22 has been my favorite for macro on this lens.

So no autofocus, no IS/VR, great macro glass. If you upgrade your camera later to one with a screw drive this can be a strong portrait lens as well as a macro.

I've no experience with the lens, but this is the cheapest macro lens I can find. It seems to have decent reviews, I usually trust photozone.

I'd return one of the above and consider something like the Tokina instead. I have Tokina wide angle that I really like, I've just not used their marco lens.

I'm looking for a macro lens for my D3300. I already have the Nikkor 18-55mm, 35mm 1.8, and a 55-200mm. I want to take macro images of bugs, jewellery, my dogs etc. I have narrowed it down to these three:

Tamron 60 mm Macro Di II Lens for Nikon

Tokina AF 100mm F/2.8 Macro AT-X 100AF PRO D - Nikon

Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro Lens for Nikon DSLR Camera

I like the f2 on the Tamron, however the zoom on the Sigma and the Tokina would also be nice. I was initially looking at the Nikkor 40mm macro as it's much more affordable but apparently 40mm is a bit wide and you may end up blocking the light.

Any thoughts would be appreciated!

Of your options, only the second is really a macro lens. The first might be a good all around but you won't get the macro. You really want a 100mm macro lens, or a bit wider but be sure it's labeled as "macro".

Nikon 40mm macro ($280) is Nikon brand and macro. It's a nice lens.

I personally use the Tokina 100mm Macro which is a little more expensive at $350 but is a very nice lens. There are other options on this page that are comparable, I think a 90mm Tamron is also nice.

Are you using a DSLR? I recently picked up this macro lens on Craigslist and it was such a huge upgrade for me.

Unfortunately I bought it at the end of summer and now there's no butterflies to take pictures of though haha.

Look at the Tokina 100 2.8 macro. It also doubles as a portrait lens. Used is under $400.
