At a certain age you have to ask yourself which would be worse. Bending over to pick something up? Or crouching down to pick something up and then having to stand back up from a crouch?

Eh...it's a toss-up, and you make the same noises either way. At some point, you just give in and get one of those grabber-stick thingies.

Disclaimer: Do not attempt to lift small children or pets with the grabber stick thingie. Sit down and let them come to you!

I'm in my late 20's, I hope it's ok that I post here. I had a fibroid removed during surgery for endometriosis.

If you're having a laparoscopy, the doc will knock you out and then cut 3 holes in your stomach. One of them will pump gas in so the docs have more room to move around. Through another hole s/he will put a camera on the end of a long thin tube. Through the third hole they'll put the instrument to cut (or burn) the fibroid and remove it. they make another cut if they have to use another instrument.

After surgery you'll feel however you feel after anesthesia. Pro-tip if you're prone to puking let the anethesia team know and ask about a scoplamine patch. You'll have some trouble using your ab muscles for a few days. You should ask someone to stay with you and hand you things on shelves and things you'd have to bend to pick up. If you have a friend who has a grabbing stick ask if you can borrow it. Your doc will give info about if/when you can shower and how to clean your scars. Another pro-tip, don't use waterproof band-aids, sweat got trapped in mine and one of the cuts got infected.

After a few weeks at your check-up from the doctor you'll get a piece of paper from the pathologist telling you how big the fibroid was and if there was anything odd about it. If you really want to know you can call the office after a day or two and ask. If your' really lucky, they might even have a picture of it. I'm sure you'll much better with that intrusive tissue out of you and gone.

I had to get a grabber (32" EZ Reacher and Grabber (Pick Stick) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016P1VT2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1Wy4Bb0TW8WXQ)

It’s a win-win because not only can I grab stuff, but my husband feels REALLY bad when he sees me use it and just ends up doing the task.

Seconding the pillow, yummy snacks, something to do that doesn't involved walking around, one of these types of things to pick stuff up (he's probably not supposed to bend over for a while), gift certificate for takeout food, warm cozy socks.
Hoping your friend is feeling physically well and in an emotionally good place!

Hugs I literally feel your pain. I keep telling myself that it’ll be over before I know it and that it’ll be worth it in the long run. Have you tried heat or ice? I’ve been alternating ice and heat and it helps a little, and I’m staying off my feet as much as I can. It sucks though. I’ll be so happy when I can put pants on like a normal person again.
Oh! Another thing that has been a HUGE help is I have this pinchy grabber stick thing that I can pick things up off the floor with. I highly recommend one!

Perhaps this? Or a long coat hanger and a lot of patience. Maybe even an angled piece on the end of a shop vac.
