Have you considered these? They protect better than having the stitches out in the open rubbing on keys and getting dirty.

I made the pattern myself; you can find it, with other pictures, over on Google Photos. This is stitched on 22-count, over one, with one strand except the outside backstitching; I didn't put colors in the pattern because I hadn't picked them yet, so they are: red: DMC 498; yellow: DMC 973; blue: DMC 336; backstitching: DMC 823.

I finished this as a keychain (thanks to the person here who mentioned these!), but I didn't do a good job of it--I needed to use an edging stitch and not fold the fabric over onto the back, because it was too thick even when trimmed. Next time I will drop the outermost row/column from the pattern, possibly the outermost two, run a nun's stitch around, and just trim off the outsides and pop it into the keychain without any backing.
These are the only decently sized photo frame keychains I could find. Couldn't find these being sold individually or in smaller batches. I'll just keep making keychains for myself.
The pictures themselves I edited using GIMP photo editor. And it only cost a few cents to print them in picture paper at the local pharmacy.

And, here are the keychain acrylic holders I used for these. Just let me know if you have Qs! 💜
