Unfortunately, only USB 3.0

Also, if you're a prime member, you can buy it on Amazon for pretty much same price

Don't worry about asking "dumb" questions, this is a completely new field that caters more to enthusiasts than general computer users. Unfortunately, not everything is "VR compatible" due to the heavy demands on graphics processors to make the virtual environments possible.

EDIT: Thanks to /u/NWNJ - I must have looked up the R3, not the R4. Ignore everything below this point, as apparently the R4 is VR Ready.

The good news is that your laptop is one of the few that can be made to be compatible.

The bad news is that it looks like you need to use the Alienware Graphics Amplifier[1] in order for the laptop to be VR compatible. You will also need to buy a high-end graphics card, such as the nVidia 1060, 1070, or 1080.

Take a look at the article here, or the Dell FAQ on the topic here.

[1] Note that I'm not sure this is exactly the model you need. I just wanted to give you an idea of the cost and what it looks like.

Also, what i was thinking was getting like a lenovo thinkpad that has two batteries with good processor and basic GPU then get something like: this

> This. I would pay extra money for a Switch Pro Dock if it meant I could play a game like NBA 2K how it's played on the other systems.

How much? Alienware's external GPU shell alone is $139 on Amazon. $300? $450? If only a single % of Switch buyers are interested in a dock just for improved framerates, I don't see that being a convincing business proposition.

I was referring to those, yes. They're all over newegg and amazon. Here's the dock on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-9R7XN-Graphics-Amplifier/dp/B00PCJXN0I

I mean, it does say that it's limited to an Alienware, but I'm pretty sure there's ways around that.

Without issue? Completely without issue you would be looking at something like this:

https://www.amazon.com/Amazons-Choice-Predator-GeForce-G3-571-77QK/dp/B06Y4GZS9C/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1503866310&sr=1-3&keywords=Gaming+laptop

This one great because it has a GPU

If that isn't quite in your price range, this one will do fine, but with some moderate lag or dropped frames and the like.

Remember, you can always go cheaper than this on the laptop, and then add an external GPU like this to boost laptop power:

I don't know if you're going to find a sub-$100 solution for this; the enclosure needs its own PSU and a way to talk to the PC, which is usually Type-C. The cheapest enclosure I've seen that doesn't include a graphics card is this one from Dell, which explicitly supports Radeon 5000 and newer.

Other EGPU's aren't as efficient as tested by LTT which resulted in a net loss of performance of 3 percent? I wanna say?
If you have issues sourcing from dell, try best buy/amazon. There are a crap ton available on third party websites.

if you want, you could also buy their extra accessories which allow you to connect a desktop [GPU] (https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-9R7XN-Graphics-Amplifier/dp/B00PCJXN0I) which you can always open up and put in whatever GPU you wanted, future proof more or less.

I'm in the same boat, sort of. I already have a 980M in mine, but i'm wanting to get into VR.

This - https://www.amazon.com/Alienware-9R7XN-Graphics-Amplifier/dp/B00PCJXN0I - is my solution. It may work for you too. It's about as plug n play as you can get.

Alienware Graphics Amplifier might work. It does have a full size PCIE slot in it that should be for a video card but in theory it should work for the wireless adapter. If it doesnt work you can always return it or put a 1080 ti in it!
