I also have an i3/750Ti combo that works well with SteamOS. This is the mobo I have: http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXIY468/ref=wms_ohs_product?ie=UTF8&psc=1

The 750Ti is a great little card, don't even bother with the AMD APU, it'll cause you nothing but problems in linux.

...And then I realized those are LGA1366 sockets and the motherboards that fit them run $350. I'm learning so much already with this project!

Looks like I'll be going with the i3-4160 like you suggested. LGA1150 sockets = cheap Asus H87I-PLUS motherboards. This one limits me to 6 drives (only 6 SATA ports) but that also cuts my MoBo/CPU total cost to ~$200. Thoughts?

Here's the one I saw by ASUS, it's an H which is probably fine for what I need: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CXIY468/ref=ox_sc_act_title_6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A3KGNLL200UCI2

Might have to look into that AsRock.

Hey there! Doing an mITX build and was wondering if anyone had thoughts on this motherboard? I couldn't really find any reviews. I was going to get this one, but wasn't sure if I wanted to overclock. PC will be used for gaming and basic college work.

Here is my build so far:

Edit: How many watts will I need? Both to overclock and not. THANK YOU!

I prefer ITX over mATX for the MB. YMMV.

For the price of a MB and CPU, go with a Haswell setup (Socket 1150). For future proofing anyway, they natively support 4K HD.

The gpu (graphics card) is a compact one. The one you chose has a smaller pcb (the silicon board) than most other graphics cards. This card was probably meant for smaller motherboards in smaller cases (micro atx or mini itx, which are form factors, e.g your mobo is an atx). Because of this the fans of the asus 760 are smaller and will probably have to spin faster to cool the gpu, so I am assuming it will generate more noise.

Here is your asus gpu and here is an evga one, note the difference in sizes.

Here is your atx mobo, a micro atx, and a mini itx, note the difference in sizes.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Sure, but it's two years old...
