I want to point out that instead of the M50X that you have linked, you can get a Fiio E6 free with it using this link. http://amzn.com/B00JZRXWRW

Audio Technica ATH-m50x! I bought a pair and I can't reccomend them to enough people! Here's a link (sorry it's a US link, but the product should still be available)
Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JZRXWRW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

These headphones changed my music, and it allows you to appreciate everything from an audio aspect in a whole new way! Please give these a look!

I saw a lot of good things about these m50x so I decided to order a pair. They should be here tomorrow. But I believe they are better than the majors at the same price. I'll let you know how I like them tomorrow if youre interested.

I'd go with the M50x if 200 is yr limit. They sound marginally better, but the removable cable is a godsend. You won't regret going with the upgrade. The one thing to keep in mind is that to fully experience the power of these phones, you're going to want to use a headphone amp. Luckily there is a great deal on amazon that includes a Fiio E6 for the same price. The E6 certainly isn't the greatest amp out there, but it is small, has good battery life, and if you are coming from Bose, this will blow yr mind.

Budget - $100 preferred, willing to go up to $150ish

Source - PC, Phone (note 3), tablet (nexus 7)

Requirements for isolation - Medium, mostly for home use. I'd like to avoid too much sound bleeding also.

Preffered type - Over ear, I have a large head.

Preffered tonal balance - I like crisp clear highs, but I do want a balance so I can still get some bass out of the headphones.

Past Headphones - Bose AE2 many years ago, most recently a pair of Monoprice HIFI DJ headphones that broke in a month, I hate these.

Preffered Music - Mostly metal, I do listen to just about everything but rap. I'd like some bass for my occasional electronic stints.

I've been looking at VModa Crossfade LP ($107) and Sennheiser 558 ($120) and 598 ($170) and this audio technica 50x bundle. Build quality and comfort are just as important to me as sound. I appreciate any help you guys can offer.

If you're worried about that I guess it's worth the investment. Just don't expect any significant sound improvements versus the regular M50.

They're $170 on my Amazon, but this one is the same price but you get a free amplifier as a gift.

Yup, I'd say that's a good deal. Although, they have a deal where you get the amp and the headphones (black) for the same price as the headphones alone.

The deal is slightly more for the blue headphones, but still discounted nonetheless.

I ended up going with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50x, instead. This bundle at Amazon (US $169) even threw in a FiiO E6 amp for free.

Still, good to know that the COPs are regularly on sale. I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm in the market for a set of headphones!

Hey guys,

I have narrowed my possible headphone choices down to 5 kinds, but I'm kind of having trouble deciding which one to pick:

V-Moda XS: http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-On-Ear-Folding-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00GO4GMAI

V-Moda Crossfade LP2 with XL Ear pads bought separately: http://www.amazon.com/V-MODA-Crossfade-Over-Ear-Noise-Isolating-Headphone/dp/B00HYH7HXA/ref=pd_tcs_subst_e_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=1C43YNNYY8MYCJEEA8DG

Audio-Technica ATH-M50x with FiiO E6 : http://www.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-Professional-Headphones-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00JZRXWRW/ref=pd_cp_MI_1

Jaybird BlueBuds X: http://www.amazon.com/JayBird-BlueBuds-Sport-Bluetooth-Headphones/dp/B00B6ZGSVI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=undefined&sr=8-2&keywords=jaybird+bluebuds+x

and last but certainly not least: The Beyerdynamic Custom One Pro:
http://www.amazon.com/Beyerdynamic-Custom-One-Pro-Black/dp/B008XEYT48/ref=sr_1_1?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1409518695&sr=1-1&keywords=Beyerdynamic+custom+one+pro

I listen to a lot of EDM and rock, and occasionally some pop. I want headphones that would be able to block out some sound because I will be listening to these on the bus to school, so I want to basically drown out all the screaming freshmen girls :P I also want these to last a while, and they should be able to tolerate some sweat, because i sweat excessively even when I'm not working out. I am coming from the Bose QuietComfort 2 Headphones, and I want the sound to be an upgrade over that. Based on this information, which one out of these 5 would you recommend?

They're monitor earphones, so they emphasize neutral audio without enhancements. My pair came with a portable DAC that boosts the bass and some of the mids. They sound fantastic. During office hours, often people have to wave in my face to get my attention.

Ok thanks. then what do you think of this bundle on amazon?http://smile.amazon.com/Audio-Technica-Professional-Headphones-Headphone-Amplifier/dp/B00JZRXWRW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407699156&sr=8-3&keywords=m50x

Is the Amplifier worth the upgrade to the blue M50x or is it not worth the $70 in terms of quality?

u/apocalypsedg · 1 pointr/headphones

Budget - about €160, can vary a bit.

Source - PC.

Requirements for Isolation - I'll only be using them at home, so not really.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Around the ear, circumaural.

Preferred tonal balance - Flat, I think? I don't really have a way of comparing but I think flat, balanced is best.

Past headphones - generic gaming headsets, the earbuds that came with my phone. I didn't like either and just got them because of convenience not audio quality, which has now become my priority.

Preferred Music - synth/electro pop, indie pop, electronic music, electronica. Lorde, CHVRCHES, Flume, Grimes, Purity Ring.

Location - Ireland

Just a few questions about 'Source' because I suspect it may have a direct influence on my purchase even though this isn't a dac/amp thread: Fro some reason I have a soundcard in my PC (the creative soundblaster). Do I still need a DAC and/or an Amp? Is it true this soundcard is inferior to a DAC in terms of sound quality so I'll need one anyway? Do I bypass the soundcard if I plug it into the front of my pc instead of the back, even though Creative's software such as its equalizer still work? I don't see how the soundcard is at the back but it influences the front port too? Can I blow up headphones if I accidentally plug them into the soundcard port for speakers? Say for instance I got the audio technica ath-m50x which has low impedance, what should I do for 'source'? Front, back, or dac/amp?

If hypothetically I lived in the US and the American Amazon.com was able to deliver to me, why would I get this deal which includes the Fiio E6? The Amp only costs an extra 0.95 USD compared to the m50x alone. I thought low impedance meant I didn't really need an Amp, so are they being dumb selling them together or is there some snag involved? Do soundcards have their own DAC and Amp?
