As configured by you (i7, 3TB HD, 4GB video card), the cost comes to $3099.00. I added in 16GB of memory over the stock 8 since that's pretty much standard for most builds, anymore.

5k Dell Monitor: $1,439.99

Retail i7-4790: $307.00

Gigabyte GA-Z97-HD3 Motherboard: $102.95

Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB Kit: $66.99

Corsair Carbide SPEC-01 Mid Tower Case: $48.99

Silverstone Tek 500W 80+ Gold PSU: $79.99

EVGA GeForce GTX 960 4GB Video Card: $229.99

CM Storm Devastator KB/Mouse Combo: $29.99

Total Cost: $2305.89

Video card was a bit of a toughie since the iMac uses a notebook GPU, so I went with something a bit faster, but comparable. This is a complete system with comparable to better specs.

Given the price difference, may as well go with a 980Ti for that extra graphics oomph or tack on some water cooling.

Edit: Woops! Forgot storage and OS!

WD Blue 3TB HD: $98.70

Samsung 850 EVO 120GB (configured as cache drive): $66.99

Windows 10 Home: $119.00

Revised Total: $2590.58. Still cheaper and could still sub out the 960 for a 980Ti and be under cost.

Any microcenters near you? They have that processor for $280 here, making for a nice $60 savings. If not, NCIX has it for $15 cheaper with free shipping.

RAM is way overpriced, I'd recommend Crucial Ballistix sport on Amazon, same kind of kit, 2x8gb 1600 mt/s. That'll save you $50.

That mobo seems a bit overpriced to me, there are some great high end boards that don't hit the $200 mark. This ASrock z87 Extreme4 on NewEgg has been ranted and raved about. But if you're looking for that overclocking utility, maybe stick with the Asus. I can't speak for their overclocking tools, but I can vouch for the quality of MSI's.

You could prolly get Windows 8 OEM a bit cheaper from somewhere else too, but it'll only save you $10 more.

u/yourfunkydad · 3 pointsr/pcmasterrace

That is just one of the issues with speccy (the program showing this information)

Not exactly sure why, but it will read about half speed with dual channel ram. My ram only reads 799 Mhz when it is actually 1600.

So OP's ram is actually around ~2000Mhz range, which is above the average for the time being.

u/dombomb77 · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

I got these for 124.

How do they stack up? Was it a good deal considering the specs (pretty newb, but learning as I go.)

Memtestx86 isn't complete but found the following:

Tst: 8 Pass: 0 Failing Address: 004f4703f6c - 20295.1MB Good: ffff7fff Bad: ffff3fff Err-Bits: 00004000 Count: 1 CPU: 0

I'm waiting on the end of the test for the report but am I correct in assuming one of the new sticks is faulty? Is this likely a product defect?

u/traxic · 1 pointr/homelab

I have the same model your planning on purchasing (Xeon 1225v3) and I have 2 sets of these (totalling 32GB) in it right now. They work great, however I haven't looked to see if they have been under clocked because of voltage.

u/pounded_rice · 1 pointr/buildapc

I recently foudn out my memory sticks are defective and I'm in need of replacing them.

Will these sticks : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B006YG9EEW/

work with a ASUS P8Z77-V LE LGA 1155 ?

u/synk2 · 1 pointr/homelab

That memory should work fine. I'm running 32GB of this in both my TS140s and they're great. You can even mix the ECC/non-ECC without a problem (though the ECC will disable its ECC functionality when mixed). The 140s really don't play well with higher speed ram. I'd avoid getting 1866+ and stick with the 1600.

I have a couple of Dell Intel Nics in my 140s. A Quad and two Duals and they've worked wonderfully under both KVM and Hyper-V. I know some people have had issues with actual Intel branded NICs (not sure about specific part numbers), but I've seen no problems with the Dells. No idea what the difference is, but I'd think the one you linked would be a good bet.

u/PennStatebutBoston · 1 pointr/buildapc

I was just looking at Prime day and they have a deal on 16 GB of RAM. Based on everybody's replies I might upgrade to a SSD and get that RAM. Worry about functionality over gaming for now

If you're doing some overclocking, change the motherboard. The Extreme4 is not very good at it. I would opt for something like a Gigabyte Z77X-UD3H or a Biostar TZ77XE3.

As for ram, the ram you picked has a large heatspreader and might prevent you from installing the cooler with the fan in push configuration. Something like Crucial's Ballistic Sport is cheaper, lower profile (won't interfere with heatsink), and has slightly tighter timings than the Corsair RAM you picked.

Lastly, power supply. Do you actually need 750W? Do you plan on running SLI in the future? If you aren't, I would downgrade the power supply to a 500-600W unit. Otherwise, a cheaper alternative to a 750W power supply is the Rosewill Hive 750. Hardware Secrets reviewed a 650W version and gave it a great rating.

u/javipas · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I've seen two options in a quick search:

  1. Corsair Vengeance 12GB (3 x 4GB) - $77.99
  2. Crucial Ballistix Sport 16GB (2 x 8 GB) - $84.99

The doubt here is: would be going to dual modules instead of a triple module configuration be a bad option? The price is quite interesting for the Crucial memory.
u/jinitokazama · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Cool! Then would that mean a set of ram like this would work?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006YG9EEW/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
or this
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B008E3M4QS/ref=psdc_172500_t3_B006YG9EEW
Or do you think it would be better/faster if I were to get another 8gb stick (2 4gb sticks) to add to my current system to get 16gb of total ram?

u/MasterofStickpplz · 1 pointr/starcitizen

Just a couple of thoughts

  • It'd be better off with the i5-4460 for about $50 more and still keep under the $800 mark.

  • I'd try to push for the EVGA GS (or G2) 650W 80+ Gold if only because, in my experience, EVGA has a better build quality vs Corsair as far as PSUs go =3=

  • As for RAM I'd rather go with this kit, this one, or this one if only because CAS9 over CAS10 (and for roughly the same price). Even then, this can be dropped to 8 GB to save cash if needed (more-so considering this is entry level)

  • the mobo comes with a SATA cable or two so I don't see why we're buying another one on this list
u/TheGreatElector · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Is this laptop or desktop ram?

Edit: I am going to assume desktop, I personally would look into the fowling 3

* Kingston HyperX Beast

* Corsair Vengeance Pro

* Crucial Ballistix Sport

Hi all,

Over the weekend I ordered this RAM here. It is DDR3-1600 Mhz. However, I just realized now that my rather dated CPU (i5-2320)'s memory controller supports 1066 and 1333 Mhz. I don't mind if the RAM downclocks (is that the correct term?) as I've seen that the frequencies don't actually affect speed all that much, but will this mismatch be an incompatibility issue?

u/im_the_bat · 1 pointr/Vive

I originally had corsair vengance. I replaced it with Crucial Ballistix

u/Nikjy · 1 pointr/buildapc

will this fit ? pretty good ram kits ...

u/JustOnePunch · 1 pointr/pcgaming

How important is RAM in my computer? All I'm going to do is play games at decent enough settings to get 60 FPS and edit videos. Will this suffice? https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-PC3-12800-240-Pin-BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00/dp/B006YG9EEW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1496752508&sr=8-3&keywords=desktop+memory The second part of my question is is this part compatible with any motherboard or do I need a certain kind to use?

u/TophShy · 1 pointr/buildapc

Sorry for the late reply! So my motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H

Now tell me if I'm on the right track here:

Looking it up, it shows that the motherboard can support: DDR3 2800(OC)/1600/1333/1066 MHz RAM sticks up to 32 gigs.

The RAM from Amazon that I linked is DDR4. So that means that my current motherboard will not support this new RAM. Is that correct?

So I found 3 more on Amazon that look to be compatible. Can you let me know your thoughts on these?

RAM 1

RAM 2

RAM 3

Obviously by looking at my motherboard, I built this comp about
6-7 years ago. So I'm guessing upgrading my motherboard and then buying some DDR4 RAM would be best, but upgrading a motherboard sounds very complicated. Thoughts - and would I see a big difference?

Thanks!

EDIT: Also, another quick question: apparently I have 4 RAM slots. If I buy this new 16 gigs in the form of 2, 8 gigs sticks, can I fill all slots for a total of 24 gigs of RAM? So the slots would be 4-4-8-8. Or do all sticks have to be the same make/model/size? And if I am able to use all at once, should they be in any specific order?

u/misha1234521 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I personally would reccomend the Crucial Ballistix Sport as I know that the evo 212 will fit next to it (as the ram is low profile) and I have used it in 2 builds so far with no trouble at all.

u/SpaceChimera · 1 pointr/buildapc

I currently have 16gb of RAM (2x8) in my computer. I'm looking to get 2 more sticks of 8gb RAM for better video editing performance. Do they have to be the exact same as the RAM I already have?

this is what I have currently if it matters.

u/Booba_ooba · 1 pointr/pcgaming

I have this https://www.amazon.com/Crucial-Ballistix-PC3-12800-240-Pin-BLS2KIT8G3D1609DS1S00/dp/B006YG9EEW

So just 16GB of ram but could go up to 32GB.

Do you think this is worth trying out for game loading or anything else?

u/stephon972 · 1 pointr/buildapc

ok I was looking for one that was specifically on amazon. Because I trust that merchant when making purchases. Ill keep looking to see if I find a good one from amazon if not I will consider purchasing from a different merchant that sells the one you suggested I appreciate this I was also wondering about these 3 types of ram is their any difference I will have to find a motherboard that can take the one I choose.

I upgraded from 8GB to 16GB ram back in January for BO3. It fixed a lot of the freezes and crashes. The RAM usage is just badly optimized for BO3. I got the Crucial Ballistix Sport for around 70 euros. Also try turning on Vsync and cap FPS to 60. If I don't have these options enabled even with a GTX 1080 the fps stutters up and down like a yoyo.
