I stopped lying to myself about this a while ago.

This pack will probably last you 2~3 years no problem, even if you lose a few. With this perspective, my absolute cheapest pen (a Lamy Safari) would need to be used for over ten years to get the same cost/year, without any ink. Once you factor ink in I'm pretty sure there's no way to ever make the Lamy a cheaper option, assuming you write the same amount with both things. I'm sure the Lamy will last that long (or longer), but I also have about ten more pens, some of which individually cost more than you could spend on plastic ballpoints in a lifetime. Could be different with art pens I suppose but I have no experience with them.

I'm okay with it not being cheaper, because with my pens, every time I need to write something down or take notes, my day gets a little better.

My (relatively cheap) Lamy Safari was $20. Add another 15 for ink and a converter and that brings my total cost for a fountain pen to $35

Cheap pens go for $0.10 a piece. For about the same price as a cheap fountain pen you could buy 360 cheap pens; enough to have a fresh pen every day for a year. If you pay these pens the same amount of care you give a fountain pen, and use a new one only every two weeks, you can get 14 years of use out of cheap pens for the same price.

Fountain pens are most certainly a luxury item. They are more expensive, and more high maintenance than disposable ball points. Are they worth it? Sure. But you're not gonna look for a fountain pen as a way to save money.

Throughout high school I learned that I would never get back pens lent out, I would be too shy to ask for them back, or they would always ask to keep it for the rest of the day then it would magically get lost the next day, so I would buy a pack of these every once in a while and keep a handful in my backpack to lend out and not care about. Great deal with that amazon link, about $4.50 for 60, so about 8 cents for each one. I have enough for months or a year to give out and my parents to have, of course they leave them uncapped and the next week they need a new pen.

Discreet and light weight are also subjective. Do you carry a bag on you every day? or are you wearing cargo pants every day? or does all this have to get stuffed in the pockets of your jeans?

A lot of these things are completely personal choices and as such you might take a step back and evaluate what you have and consider what you find wrong with your current choices.

You might start with an Altoids tin FAK or Altoids tin survival kit

Knives...small, inexpensive, discreet, unassuming. A few come to mind

CRKT Squid

Keshaw Shuffle

Wallet. What's wrong with the one you have now? or do you just want a fancy new one? All my life my leather bi-fold wallets have served me well. Only had two in over 20 years.

Flashlights are good. You can go knock off or Streamlight.

Pens. People recommend Fisher Space Pens such as the one I linked. They're quality pens, durable, stylish and refillable. I personally carry grey Bic disposables because people steal them or I lose them.

Multi-tool...I suggest Leatherman. Again it's subjective based on the tools that you need. Take a look at the Leatherman website. They have a good tool selector based on size and number of tools you want/need. My Skeletool CX has always served me well.

A way to carry keys? What's wrong with how you carry them now? If you're stuffing them in your pocket traditional key rings are still fine. Carrying them of body? on a bag? Then some sort of carabiner works, like the Keybiner or some variation. Don't want something rattling around? The Key-bar is nice if you don't have giant keys.

Expanding on the "buy school supplies online" idea -

You can get six months of free Amazon Prime for being a student - if every roomie threw in ten dollars, you could probably cover them for the whole semester.

Item | Price
:-- | --:
60-Pack pens | $5.29 | http://www.amazon.com/BIC-Round-Medium-Point-GSM609-Blk/dp/B0012YVGOW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1376848239&sr=8-1&keywords=pens
500 Sheets College-ruled paper | $14.15
25-Pack Pocket Folders | $9.99
144 pencils | $15.99

You might have to pay for shipping, I didn't check which things get free shipping under Amazon prime. If you do, though, it'll be <$5

So for about $50, you'll have all your basic note-taking supplies done. That should easily cover four people for a semester, those pens and pencils could cover four guys for all four years, assuming you're good about not losing them. If you re-use the folders, the only thing you need to buy again is paper.

All your school supplies, shipped to your door, each guy throws in ~$13. Can't get more convenient than that.

This is super cool! I don't sleep, so this will keep me entertained for a bit!

1.) Something that is grey.

Well, it's more silver-ish, but it'll do! (WL)

2.) Something reminiscent of rain.

Because the sound of the rain is so peaceful :)

3.) Something food related that is unusual.

I know, it is unusual! We will be using it for liquid sugar that we make, to make our homemade Starbucks green tea :) (WL)

4.) Something on your list that is for someone other than yourself. Tell me who it's for and why. (Yes, pets count!)

It's for my boyfriend, and for the aforementioned green teas we make :) I have one, and he's pretty jealous of it. Not to mention he spills so! (WL)

5.) A book I should read! I am an avid reader, so take your best shot and tell me why I need to read it!

It's called Jesus' Son. It is really...interesting to say the least, and I can guarantee not at all what you'd expect! (Unless you're expecting drugs, and the main character to be called Fuckhead!)

6.) An item that is less than a dollar, including shipping... that is not jewelry, nail polish, and or hair related!

Clever? Or wrong. Lol.

7.) Something related to cats. I love cats! (keep this SFW, you know who you are...)

Because who doesn't miss these guys?

8.) Something that is not useful, but so beautiful you must have it.

I mean...he's beautiful, so.... <3

9.) A movie everyone should watch at least once in their life. Why?

My username is a big hint to what this movie is! It's just so happy, and makes me laugh every time I watch it (and I've been watching it multiple times every year since it came out, and I was only 5!). It's just a genuinely happy, feel-good movie, with great music :)

10.) Something that would be useful when the zombies attack. Explain.

You know, for heat/fire when there's no electricity! (WL)

11.) Something that would have a profound impact on your life and help you to achieve your current goals.

It might not be the norm, but it's a gift card. Reason being instead of something specific, is with a gift card I can buy food through Amazon. Times have been a little tough around here, and we barely make it through the month money, and food wise. To know I had a little money to spend on groceries somewhere would be a major relief, and put both my boyfriend and I out of stress. I know it's not a "goal goal", but our happiness is a goal of mine, and it's been a little shakey as of late :/(WL)

12.) One of those pesky Add-On items.

Because ours is torn, oops! (WL)

13.) The most expensive thing on your list. Your dream item. Why?

A nice, damn vacuum. Our current one sucks (bad pun), and I am really picky about a clean carpet. It would just be really nice to have a nice one, and that'll last instead of having to buy a new one every so often. (WL)

14.) Something bigger than a bread box. EDIT A bread box is typically similar in size to a microwave.

Because it never occurred to me you could buy this on Amazon!

15.) Something smaller than a golf ball.

Individually, smaller than a golfball!

16.) Something that smells wonderful.

I love, love, loooooove this perfume. I've had samples, but never the whole bottle! (WL)

17.) A (SFW) toy.

Not a toy per say, but it's definitely fun, and entertaining for hours! (WL)

18.) Something that would be helpful for going back to school.

Pens! Believe it or not, these have always been my favorite, and despite the fact there's a bunch in a box, I always ended up with none! That's why people should have their own!

19.) Something related to your current obsession, whatever that may be.

Because I...I'm...I'm a woman possessed. Normally I'm obsessed with Sherlock but since it's not out yet, I'm catching up on Doctor Who, and I can't. Just can't stop. Been talking in a British accent on accident for days! I also freaking love hoodies so it's the best of both worlds. (WL)

20.) Something that is just so amazing and awe-inspiring that I simply must see it. Explain why it is so grand.

BECAUSE LOOK AT IT! Making tasty foods on it for the belly! (WL)

Hey, this was a lot of fun! Regardless of the outcome, thank you. Thoroughly enjoyed myself :)

EDIT: BONUS: Anything made in Oregon.

It's a whole gift set! It's like it knew! I actually added it to my WL. My favorite jam was taken off the shelves, so I'm always up for trying new ones :)

Your business should be profitable enough on a per employee level to afford a number of pens per worker

u/Cleyra · 1 pointr/bartenders

A 5lb box of mislabeled pens is $26 and is only 200-250 pens on Amazon. I just prefer to get regular bic pens. $5 for a pack of 60 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012YVGOW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

yeah, you could get 300 of these for that price
