I've had cats that have woken me up daily at 4am with incessant meowing for food. So she has this automatic feeder so she never learned to expect me to feed her. It makes me feel kind of weird to say that, but it's truly amazing. So when she wakes me up, it's just because she wants to play. Fortunately she doesn't get crazy!
You need one of these. They work great. It portions their food automatically and they no longer bug the shit out of you every morning for food. It's a little tricky to set up, but once you get it set up all you have to do is dump food in it once a month or so. Oh and maybe tape the lid on if you have a smart cat that knows how to open things. That cat is fat, unhealthy, and needs to be on a diet.

I know it's a bit spendy, but it is perfect! My cat is super smart, wants to get into everything, is a huge mischief maker, and she can't get into this one! I have it go off at 5am (so she doesn't wake me up) and at 1pm (while I'm at work, so she doesn't go hungry). You can program it to do a feeding up to 3 times a day, and it's pretty easy to set up.
My cat will throw up if she eats more than like 2-3 Tbs of dry food at a time, and this thing has a setting where it puts about that much out (you can have it dispense more than that, though). It also make a slight whirring sound when it lets out food, so my cat can hear it and know when food is ready.
Just make sure that your dry food is large enough. The feeder uses an auger, and if your food is too small, too much will come through when it's released. I use Evo, and it fits just fine. But, Fromm is too small. I haven't tried other brands in it.
We use a feeder full time, and I have to say it's life changing. Our cat doesn't bother us in the morning and we know for sure she'll be fed when we're not home during her meal time. Here's a link to the one we've had for over a year now with no issues at all.
