Then there's also the Cherry G80-3000 which have Blue switches which are good for typing, they hover around £60. Here and here (including shipping), if you look around maybe you'll find an even better deal!

There's a Cherry G80 with MX Red keys on eBay for around £62.

Edit: Cherry G80 with MX Blues for £61 on Amazon

That's the cheapest you can get if you buy new. Maybe you'll find one for £50 or less in a garage sale or second hand store.

Several options I've found on amazon UK, sub £60

Cherry G80 High Quality Click Action Keyboard G80-3000LSCGB-2

£60 and its MX Blue.

Tesoro Durandal G1N MX Switch Mechanical Keyboard - Black

£50, its Cherry MX but no idea about the switch type, maybe brown or red.

Cherry MX-Board 3.0 Wired Professional USB Keyboard with Win Key Lock - Black

£55, MX Red but with a very low profile keycap.

For a full-size desk one that's not difficult to get used to I'd recommend a Cherry G80-3000. Amazon link at: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-Quality-Action-Keyboard-G80-3000LSCGB-2/dp/B0041KJKAG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1499371864&sr=8-1&keywords=cherry+mx+3000

It's not crazy expensive, it's been in production for almost 30 years, and it's good quality.

The ones with a model ending in 'GB' are the UK ones, with the proper shaped enter key and the pound sign where you'd expect. Sometimes sellers put a generic picture up, so worth checking the model number to be sure.

There are lots of more specialist ones, but they all take a bit of getting used to. For home I have the one I linked to above, for working in someone else's office I have one called the Pok3r, that requires key combinations to use arrow keys.

I'm also in the market - depending on how flashy and how many buttons you want, you might consider the razer blackwidow standard (no backlighting) (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Razer-RZ03-00390500-R3W1-Black-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B0046EDIHS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1314055438&sr=8-1 ) or the cherry g80 3000 - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-Quality-Action-Keyboard-G80-3000LSCGB-2/dp/B0041KJKAG/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1314055463&sr=1-1

These are both mechanical, cherry mx blue switch keyboards. People are really coming back round to mechanical keyboards, and I will also likely be purchasing one of these two (or a Das, or a Filco - they're higher prices).

Mx blues for £58
It's apparently not great build quality, but at that price it's understandable.

There's a Cherry board on Amazon UK for about £60 I think. Cherry G80 High Quality Click Action Keyboard G80-3000LSCGB-2 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0041KJKAG/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_E8tNub1QHQHKQ

I'm looking for a (cheapish) introductory mechanical keyboard for the purposes of typing only. I've found the Cherry for ~£60 and the CM for ~£85

I was hoping you guys could give me an informed opinion whether the price difference is worth it. To me the main advantages to the CM seem to be a small form and backlit keys

Thanks for your time and opinions

a cherry g80 with mx blues is probably the best you can get for that price, although you can't really get anything great

I've been using https://www.amazon.co.uk/Cherry-Quality-Action-Keyboard-G80-3000LSCGB-2/dp/B0041KJKAG for a couple of years. I wouldn't consider anything other than a mechanical keyboard after using this.

u/breakthebank17 · 1 pointr/linuxmasterrace

Always fancied one of these
Not too expensive.
I have had the unfortunate experience of a razer blackwidow keyboard, (not back lit, and it was when they used real cherry mx blue keys (I like mx blue)) even tho the keyboard never moved the cable went faulty.
The current Keyboard I use is a mad catz strike TE (cheap and plain white back lit) They use kali keys I think, umm its ok, but some of the buttons have a slight squeak and it annoys me to no end.

These are the keyboard and mouse combos that I have owned. Oldest at the top and newest at the bottom. All of these are good options but I would recommend saving up a little bit extra and buy a cheap mechanical keyboard such as the Cherry G80 3000 for £57.66, which is one of the cheapest mechanical keyboards out there. Another thing is that you will probably find all of these even cheaper if you shop around.

There's also this, if you're in the market for a full size keyboard: Cherry G80-3000
