I don't have a microwave above my stove but I get condensation on my hood that will drip back into the kettle. I discovered if I run a fan blowing across the top of the kettle it prevents this. A tall one like this:

It doesn't have to be right next to the stove either. I have mine on high on the other side of the kitchen (10' or so away) and just the movement of air not only prevents moisture from collecting and dripping back from the vent, but also it does a great job of keeping the foam down when doing a first hop addition. I still watch it but if I have that fan running it has never come close to a boil over.
