For a non heat method I use Conair foam rollers (the pink ones in this set. Put them in when your hair is 80-90%dry and take large sections. Make sure to spray sea salt spray at your roots for volume( while your hair is wet) and use hair mousse). Here is a pic of how mine turns out. Obvs use hairspray and oil and stuff too. I only ever use nonheat methods to curl my hair and it has really preserved its health especially since it is colored, would really reccommend!

I'm in agreement that they mean plastic curler. I'm from DC, which isn't that far north, in terms of linguistic speech patterns. We say curling iron up here. Curlers are those plastic things. Also, the report refers to it being "jammed" into the throat, I suspect it was recovered with the body.

I'm guessing it was likely a foam curler of some sort, like these, or a variant on these. The plastic curlers you mention tend to be totally open through the center, and likely wouldn't have caused suffocation. These would have, though, and the smallest ones could be swallowed, I'd think.

We're going to play it by ear at the salon. If she's excited, we can try to get her hair done. If she's not having it, we'll just pass and do it later. I just didn't want to get it done if it was just going to be ruined a couple hours later.

I think it could go either way. She LOVES girly things right now - bracelets, necklaces, mom's shoes... But we will see. I might get a package of foam curlers as a backup, but otherwise we'll just comb it and put a bow on her or something.

I've never used that first kind -- the texture looks like Velcro?? I meant this kind of curler (am on mobile so can't make a clean link): https://www.amazon.com/Conair-Foam-Rollers-48-Pack/dp/B001KYS930

These aren't bendy like your second link -- instead they have a sort of barrette insert to snap shut on your head. The foam also has a decent amount of give, so that you can wind the curl tighter on the curler.
