I also think the lower price points are a huge deal. I remember back in the fall of 2011 I bought a 120gb corsair force GT SSD and it cost $250 after mail in rebate. Nowadays I could buy approximately the same SSD for $50. http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Force-120-2-5-Inch-SSD/dp/B00V5M1NRG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464207825&sr=8-1&keywords=corsair+120gb+ssd

Nowadays that budget of $250 would get you atleast a 250gb m.2 ssd with speeds almost 4 times that of a normal sata3 ssd. There are awesome times to be a hardware consumer.

which is why i spent the extra $2 to get this

Look at craiglist or ebay for corporate i5 or i7 laptops

I have also seen @ Bestbuy the openbox sales, you can get a new i5 for around 200 sometimes

If you dont know much about computers or how to load windows then may be a little tough so I would recommend avoiding anything without windows/hdd

Like here is an i5 for 140$

Get a 100+ gb SSD drive

As far as upgrades...

  • Ideally get an ssd drive, many of the used corporate laptops dont have HD's
  • Ideally 8gb of memory, most will come with 4gb which works but mem is cheap.
