I'm personally a fan of magnet discs myself. They tend to be quite a bit stronger than peel and attach magnets and stick to the fridge a whole lot better. I've seen medium sized sprites slowly fall with the strips but with discs they stay exactly where they're supposed to be. Just make sure you rinse them first as they aren't cleaned from the initial machining.

Magnets I used, I've had them forever
LED strip I used (IP65 Daylight)
Remote for LEDs
The supports are 7.25"x0.5" pine dowel.
I printed in ABS so I could use acetone to weld the parts together. If I wasn't using ABS I might have designed the connections between the parts a LOT better. For now acetone and some clamping left me with a solid ring.
I painted the whole ring black afterwards to hide the acetone smoothing and blend it all together.
I had to wing the dimensions as I have no idea the size of other surrounds. I just went with a size that seemed right and a distance from the board that seemed right. I 'aimed' the LEDs to converge a few inches off the board.
