David Milch mentioned that in the Deadwood companion book he wrote. I highly recommend it: https://www.amazon.com/Deadwood-Stories-Black-David-Milch/dp/1596912391/ref=sr_1_4?crid=3763920MOV7EA&keywords=deadwood+book&qid=1566155908&s=gateway&sprefix=deadwood%2Caps%2C245&sr=8-4 I would've loved to see how it would've played out. He was clearly angry at his lot in life at the end of the series so I could see him slowly changing, or at least trying to.
