First of all, I'd do a little rearranging and put the couch opposite the fireplace, and the two chairs along the wall where the couch is now. Then put the tall lamp in the corner, and perhaps a tall plant if you can get one. That would make the couch the main focal point of the room when you walk in the door. Right now it's obtrusive because it's kind of right in the circulation.

Could you paint the coffee & side tables? One or two quarts of chalk paint or milk paint (you don't have to sand) will work wonders. I'd paint them either white, light gray, or even navy. That would really modernize those pieces.

With some accessories I think you could achieve a cool bohemian look. Switch out the lamp shades for both the lamps (if you can, it's hard to tell what the larger lamp is in the photo). Something like this or this. Take the current throw off the grey lounge chair, pick up a couple of colorful throws. Here's a good example of one but you can look at TJ Maxx, World Market, Pier 1 Imports, or antique/consignment shops in your area for something similar. Get at least 4 more throw pillows, also in different colors. Navy, orange, red, emerald, gold.. You want to mix and match colors, textures, and patterns to make it look curated but effortless. The above stores are great sources for those as well.

Put up some wall art, a macrame wall hanging with some color like this one would be perfect to tie everything together. Then some framed botanical prints as well. If you're on a super budget you can even print them at your local print shop. Audubon's Birds of America are un-copyrighted and you can download full resolution images for free. Then just pick a size to print them as, such as 11x17 or 18x24 that you can easily buy frames for. There are many other un-copyrighted botanicals/animal studies up for grabs. For the coffee table I'd get some cute coasters like these marble ones, and maybe a terrarium with some succulents or air plants.
