I must confess that the last home-move, not having immediate access to my usual computer software, I just set excel cells to be square and used cell borders to create a floor plan using a cell per 10cm(~4"). I had the advantage of a laser distance meter, but I've noticed that one can get reasonable ones very cheaply these days
