Look for the major projector manufacturers like Optoma, Epson, BenQ and some of the other companies you may know like LG, Viewsonic or Acer. If it's some no name company then I'd just forget about it.
There are other projectors around the $300-ish range, this Epson 740HD is a bit higher than that at $375 but would work well. It's very bright and the reviews look pretty good.
you want at least 1280x800(720) native resolution. projector central or avsforum is my go to for projector information. i dont watch youtube reviews cause most of the time they are linked with affiliate links to sale the projectors for them to make money.
to check to see if you would like that resolution the viewsonic has head on down to walmart and pick up their rca projector they are selling right now and try it out. do do yourself a favor. get wxga at least

I am a complete noob. Basically I want to be able to watch in HD. I don't really want 4k or UHD. Just normal HD where I can play stuff with bitrate around 5000kbps. 5gb for a 1.5 hour movie at 720p for example.
For audio I have to get a rca splitter straight to headphones I guess.
