Just another thing to add to the list. The Nest Protect smoke alarm (hard-wired) is really nice because it has a night light that comes on when you walk by it. I have a lot of night lights around the house, and not having to change out the batteries or be concerned about the 'wall wart' effect are really nice! (Actually, the hard-wired does have batteries for backup, FYI). If I had more money, I'd a get a few more and I like it a lot more than the First Alert Z-Wave Smoke/CO Alarm! Also, the peace of mind that comes with being notified via phone is nice. Okay, so Nest integrates with Abode, but the Nest Protect has the least useful integration. It just says "OK" as it's status on my devices list. Of course, if you had paid-monitoring, a connected fire alarm is essential! On that note, the big thing that's missing is a z-wave smoke detector without carbon monoxide detector so that it can be located in the garage. (For the garage, I went with something like this.
