My advice to new lecturers is always the same: Don't be intimidated by the students. Never forget that you know more than they do. You've got nothing to prove to them; they've got everything to prove to you.

It really depends on your subject. I'd ask around to other people teaching the same course as you. Also, if you're using a textbook take the time to look at what the publisher provides. Most coursebooks these days come with teacher guides, lesson plans, tests, quizzes, homework assignments, etc. I find that they are not always that great, but they are a good place to start. Modify them to fit you and your teaching style.

One of the things that has really helped me is having a good document scanner. For example, I still grade student papers on paper and after having marked it up, I run it through the document scanner so I have a copy of what they wrote and what I wrote. It's also great for written exams and in-class quizzes, etc. I use this one and it's fast and easy to use. It's expensive, but if you are physically exchanging pieces of paper with your students, it's a great way to keep copies of everything.

Something that really works for me is to pre-set the time that I spend for each class like it was an appointment. So for example, lets say I have Tuesday and Thursday morning class. I might schedule every Monday afternoon between 3:00 and 5:00 as the time that I work on this class. If I don't have any prep or grading that I need to do for the class, then it becomes free time that I can work on something else. Many of my colleagues do the opposite. They look at their weekly schedule of classes and meetings as fixed and everything else is free time that they can use as they need or want and are always struggling to "find the time" to get things done.

My biggest difficulty starting GTD was practicing until the process became second nature and not such a conscious effort.
Tip: if you have a receipt worth saving, use Google drive (not sure it works on all phones or if you have a phone I suppose) on your phone to take a picture which will be saved as a PDF in the cloud. Do this right after you get it, before it is lost or faded. Check into privacy settings and all that and decide if this is good for you, as some people are not comfortable doing so.

Consider the HP LaserJet Pro MFP M426fdw. This printer currently runs $250 on Amazon with FREE shipping. This is a good monochrome multi-function printer that will handle copying, printing, scanning and faxing. Duplex printing is supported. This is a compact printer which is rated for occasional use up to 4,000 pages a month (2 reams or 1,000 sheets per week) - if you think that you might exceed this amount in the foreseeable future, I would not recommend a larger printer capable of higher volume use.
The M426fdw comes with a 50-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF) capable of one-pass double-sided (duplex) scanning. Scan speeds will vary, depending on the size of your originals and scan quality needed. HP rates the scan performance at up to 21ipm for color duplex scanning, up to 30ipm for color simplex (single sided) scanning, and up to 47ipm for b&w scanning (duplex & simplex). High capacity toner cartridges for this printer run $157 and are good for 9,000 pages at a cost of about $0.02 cents per page.

If you think you will be doing an extensive amount of scanning, consider the Fujitsu iX500 ScanSnap sheetfed scanner. This device is the gold standard for desktop scanning. I have sold and used these for many years, and users have nothing but good things to say about them. At around $400 with FREE shipping, this scanner is above your budget, but is an ideal investment for someone who is doing a high volume of scanning.
These scanners are well engineered, rock-solid reliable, and operate at a speeds up to 25ppm. The iX500 includes advanced scanning features such as single-pass duplex scanning, and an ultrasonic detector which can sense the presence of a two-page misfeed, making these events easy to recover from. Although the 25ppm speed is slower than the HP printer, I would rate this scanner above the HP in terms of scanning ability and overall performance.

It's not too pricy, it does multiple documents/photos, it'll scan both sides.
Now, certainly, the picture quality even on the best setting is not as good as a traditional flatbed scanner. If you have professionally taken 8x10s then you probably want to scan them 1 at a time.
But for everything else beside that - boxes of old 4x6 photos that no one ever looks at... where it's the memories more important than the pristine quality... you are way better off getting them in digital format where you can actually slideshow them and look at them, then have them spend decades in a box in your attic.
You can also scan documents too, so your old report cards or newspaper articles or whatever has been kicking around in boxes for years can get scanned... and then you can throw it away!
I found tons of diaries, letters, photos, and such after my mom died. Even with a multiple document feeder it takes time to scan, but I have freed up sooo much space. And you can actually GET to the scans if you organize them properly. Can't do that when they're in a box somewhere.
