excusereason for you to be able to buy this.Thanks, turns out I was using the cable tracer incorrectly. I had both black and red alligator clips on the one wire where I guess you're supposed to have the red on the one wire and black on the ground.
I did trace it to almost directly above the island - doing large sweeps it seems to concentrate in that one spot; there's no other logical place for that wire to run to.
There's no box cover or anything I see just straight drywall.
Curiosity got the best of me; I had a USB endoscope so drilled a small hole and stuck that up there. Was able to make out romex that appears to be coiled above the drywall and not nailed to the joist. I didn't see any wire nuts but could have missed them.
It's a spec house from 2004; I wouldn't be surprised if the wire was just left there as there's been some other half assed & shoddy work I've noticed over the years.
Perhaps the next step is to cut the 4 1/2" ceiling box hole and have a look?
