Powergrips work fairly well. They aren't too bad for most people to get their feet in and out of. Though, it was much harder for my spouse than for me - nearly to where he hated using them. I've also used heel slings which work well too. There are other heel support pedals that I've seen recommended, too. One was from TerraTrike and the person didn't use the front strap, just the heel support. https://shop.terratrike.com/Strapped-Heel-Support-Pedal-p/tt000024. (Probably much more than you wanted.)

I found another alternative to Powergrips awhile back but I can't see to remember the name. I know they were adjustable and available in different colors. I was thinking they would actually work better for me. I'll try to find them and share when I do. I completely agree with clipless causing repetitive injury.

EDIT: Got it! It's called Hold Fast. You can see them on Amazon here: https://www.amazon.com/Hold-Fast-Bicycle-Retention-Straps/dp/B00UGR94TU Looks like you can use them on most platform pedals. They also look more easily adjustable than Power Grips. You can also read more on their website: https://holdfastordie.com/

The Problem

I have pedal straps installed but it seems like 90% of the time the strap "falls" over the front of the pedal in a way that I have to reach down to fix it which is a big inconvenience. When I go to put my foot in the strap, I use the ball of my foot to roll the pedal around and sometimes my foot will end up in the strap and other times the strap will just get pushed forwards. I usually have to reach down to fix it which is a big pain in the ass.

My Questions

  • Is there simply something I am doing wrong with the way I am trying to get my foot into the straps?
  • Would it be more likely that the straps themselves are installed/adjusted improperly? I have them setup so that the front of my foot sits on the pedal in a similar way to how it would if I were to use clips instead. You can see pictures of the way I have it done here so let me know what you guys think! I haven't included any of how exactly my foot sits in the strap, but I can add them if that would help.
  • Is it possible that the straps themselves are just crappy quality and this is the reason that I am having so much trouble? I ordered some HoldFast straps that should be arriving in the next few days so I'll see if this solves my problem.

    Thanks in advance!
