However you do it, make sure you use a 1/8” cable out of the synth. You can use an 1/8” to 1/4” adapter on the end of the cable going into your guitar pedals or mixer, or you can get a cable that just has 1/8” on one end and 1/4” on the other, but if you get an adapter to plug a 1/4” cable into the 1/8” out on the synth the extra weight from the larger cable will put strain on the jack and eventually break it.

Best, good, bad

You will probably need one of these, assuming you want to connect the output jack to anything you'd normally connect an instrument to.

I have worked for years with adaptors at this price point, and have never had an issue. You have no idea what you’re talking about.

See how this jack has one line on it, and this one has two? Get a mono extension cable for his headphones. It will send everything to one ear or the other and all he has to do is plug in the extension. You can also get a stereo to mono converter that will be simple for his use.

Test the cable on another device to rule that out. Also some aux cables are mono and not stereo (count the rings on the jack, 1 is mono, 2 stereo)

That link is a mono miniplug. Notice just the single black ring at the tip.

You plug a guitar cable into this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068O47/ref=psdc_172544_t1_B001JYTM96 then into your computer. Then you get some sort of amp software. Unfortunately you often will see a large delay, up to 1 second, which makes playing completely impossible. I mean it's a $2 part so you may as well try, but don't expect it to ever come close to an amp. There's a reason the guitar amp companies are still in business.

I'm assuming your sound card has an 1/8" (3.5mm) input? They're usually labeled as a microphone input. All you will need to get it to work (if I understand your situation properly), is a 1/4" female to 1/8" male adapter. Something like this. Of course, you won't get the best sound quality but it sounds like you're not too picky.
