I did for about half a year. I migrated to it from pfsense. With pfsense, I always had trouble when it came time to upgrade. It almost always went wrong and I had to either roll back or do a fresh install. Recreating routes and firewall rules through the web interface was a serious pain. I tried to develop against their php shell and make configurations more reproducible, but without much luck. So switching to vyos with a simple command line interface was a great change.

Mine was installed on a usb thumb drive on an mitxpc dual wan. It gives you near line speed and solid performance. I think if I were to rebuild today, I would go onto one of these.

The big issue is if you on a major isp and want to play with IPv6. They have an open issue for the last 4 years that vyos doesn't support DHCP-v6-PD. However, EdgeOS does. A few months ago, I migrated to an EdgeRouter-X SFP. I know some people have had some issues with earlier versions of this (one guy I know has had his lose his configuration several times as if it did a factory reset). I've made a few backups along the way, and I'm pretty sure I can automate that. However, I have not had any issues with it whatsoever. Funny enough, I switched to it so I could have ipv6 working throughout, and I haven't even done that yet.

Might as well pick this up don't you think? Yeah its not as small but still more power.

This little rig will run pfsense, IPFire, Sophos, etc. It will do it silently, low power, and plenty fast and has intel NICS.
Slap in a spare SSD or buy a cheap small one, (32 gigs is plenty) and you should still be under 300 bucks.

I would not trust any of the no-name mini pc's to run things as critical as a PBX. You need quality hardware with Intel nic's (important, no realtek, atheros, etc for anything you care about).

What are you using as a file server? Like, just a purpose built PC or one of those dedicated NAS devices? I'm looking at the western digital NAS devices but my primary goal is just streaming directly to chromecasts, and I do have one of these laying around that I could just throw a 10TB WD Red HDD into and install FreeNAS... Not sure if I'll end up running into some kind of limitations that would make me have preferred the proprietary software route.

Anyhow, check your contract. They didn't mention it at all, I had to spot that and ask. They didn't provide much of an answer either, only the installers did. The one powerwall is insufficient anyhow so I would need 1 or 2 more for that reason alone, but I am trying to find out how 3 would be connected. Like are they chained together and all support the whole box or does each just take a set of breakers so the one on your HVAC or HPWC might drain quick while the lucky one just supporting lights and stuff lasts forever? That's what I'm trying to figure out.

Maybe this is what you're looking for, it has 2 Intel NIC's, perfect for pfSense. Put some RAMM in and a USB TD or small SSD and it's ready to go. Have fun with pfSense, maybe it will help against childish DDoS'ers during LAS ;) Keep the shows coming,... Thanks.

I am currently using an old PC so have been looking at my options. Thought I would share.

A Dell R210 II is reputed to be great for PFSense and go for $200 on ebay, cheaper than your build.

Or look at an Intel NUC. They're tiny and fanless, a great combo for an edge device. Around $250 new.

Or go with the PC. Quieter than rackmount, and you can control the quality by buying new, replaceable parts.
