> The head rests aren't detachable. Aren't you supposed to to them to break the Windows to evacuate in an emergency? Am I supposed to use my elbow like some savage?

No, get some of these. You probably can't break a window with your elbow.

If you are worried about drowning, get a window breaking and seatbely cutting tool.

Keep these in your car

I keep a tool in my center console that has a harness cutter and a glass breaker built into it. You can find all sorts of them for just a few bucks.

Here's one example

No, you're not. If you're inside of the car, you're not going to have nearly enough room to swing a hammer hard enough to break the glass.

Also, a 16oz hammer costs about $10 at Walmart for the cheapest possible option. In contrast, on Amazon, you can get a pair of car escape tools for the same price, which include a pointed hammer for shattering the glass, a flat hammer for breaking out the shattered glass, and a razorblade for cutting your seatbelt. Personally, I have one mounted on the back wall of the inside of my center console, and I have the other mounted to the bottom of the driver's seat (I have power seating with a plastic cover on the bottom and about two inches of clearance between the bottom and the floor).
