For $300, they'd better give me an ear-gasm. Penis-shaped or not.

Since you mention hearing loss, I have a pair of Klipsch X10 that are very noise isolating and extremely high output.

If I wear them to listen to music on my iPhone I have to limit my iPhone's volume to 50%, any louder and I'd be afraid of hearing damage. And the outside world is dead silent.

I actually use them underneath a pair of chainsaw earmuffs in the studio when I record. Literally can't hear anything but what the mics are picking up.

Also, I don't think you're using the module correctly if you're using an amp too. You should be able to plug into the headphone jack on the module, and plug the music source into an aux input on the module. Then you control the level of drums from the module, and the level of the music he's playing along with on the source (the iPod or whatever).

Sennheiser HD650- music heaven but expensive. At this point though, it's only going to sound as good as the quality of the music files you have. Amp semi-required

Sennheiser HD598- step below the HD650s. Equal treble and mids, not much bass but these are the headphones that makes you appreciate the clear sound without it.

Klipsch X10- very treble-y, it sometimes hurts, but if these weren't the clearest sounding in-ear headphones I've ever had I don't know what. Fairly wide soundstage. I've washed them twice and they still work.

MEE M-Duos- These are the cheapest of the bunch. I was pleasantly surprised at the sound of them. As clean and clear sound as the HD598 but with much more bass. My favorite tbh

It is expansive, but it stays in your ears no matter what, and its extremely light. Sound is perfect, bass is just heavy enough for funk/jazz and black metal so you don't have to use any equalizers.

Only disgusting thing is they tend to collect earwax, and in fact the more earwax you have the better they stay in. Apparently they have custom fitting stations around the country where they can mould a perfect fitting for you based on your ear, but I never bothered since the standard silicon coverings are good enough for me.

the fact that you cleaned it up and made it easy is nice. im sure they appreciate it, i kinda feel bad for posting all my questions here. but people here are so nice and welcoming :) some headphones that ive been looking at are:

The X10 should be this link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000WAHFBK/

If you're not in a rush, I'd keep my eye out for them. I got it on sale for ~$90. They fluctuate in pricing quite the bit.

The other recs are in my previous post:
>Head-Direct RE0...HiFiMan RE-400, or Etymotic Research HF5.

I do recall some others, like VSonic GR06, Audiofly AF56, or MEElectronics A161P.

For the headphones, I would recommend the Klipsch X10. Here is a review from Head-Fi. These headphones have a pretty good seal so you get excellent isolation and virtually no leakage.

As for the amp, I'd go with the FiiO E11. Solid build construction, and it packs quite a punch. It only has a 10 hour battery life though, which can get annoying if you listen to music a lot.

These two products combined cost about $182 on amazon, though I'm sure you can find a better deal if you look hard enough.

  • Budget - $100, $125 hard cap
  • Source - HTC One M8 (dat boom sound), Laptop, occasionally a stereo with 1/4" adapter. I use almost exclusively -V0 LAME mp3s, aside from spotify.
  • Requirements for Isolation- I prefer some, doesn't have to be perfect
  • Will you be using these Headphones in Public? Yes.
  • Preferred type of headphone - IEM, possibly wireless?
  • Preferred tonal balance - Balanced and detailed. Accurate bass for jazz music.
  • Past headphones Klipsch S4i, I liked the accuracy of the sound. I could really hear the little details. Also, Phiaton MS 400s, they had a stronger bass like a Beats that's actually good (lol, jk). Unfortunately the plastic broke so I can't really wear them anymore. Then again it's been a good couple years so I'm not mad.
  • Preferred Music - Jazz, Fusion, Big Band
  • What you you like to improve on from your set-up - Ideally they'd be durable and come with a good carrying case.

I've been looking at the Klipsch X10s because they really came down in price and I like the brand and have the same drivers(?) as the X11s, but some reviews say the durability is lacking. I was also looking at the Jaybird Bluebuds X1 but I bought a pair off eBay and they were defective, forcing me to return them. Honestly I don't know where to start with earbuds just considering Klipsch's line alone is overly confusing with their cryptic-as-hell model numbers. Help?

If you are wearing glasses I would suggest an IEM. And based off your music tastes I would suggest something from Klipsch. That being said I would NOT buy their brand new line of products because they are very expensive. I absolutely LOVED the x11i and if you can live without the mic and buttons the x10 is a little cheaper but identical in sound. Also these are the most comfortable IEM I have ever tried. Hope this helps.

you can buy a new pair of X10 on amazon for 118 in case you were curious. Dont think those other options you listed will top the X10.

I thought the stock AKG earphones sounded remarkably good for a freebie set, but a lot of people question whether they're actually worth the $100 that Samsung pegs them at. So, I opened up my drawer of old headphones to do a comparison of the AKG earphones to some other sets that I have. Here's a pic. Clockwise from the top are the B&O Form 2, B&O A8, Phonak Audeo PFE 122, stock AKG, and Klipsch X10. Each set was priced between $150-250 when I got them, besides the AKG, and I even listened to the last gen Samsung freebies (not pictured).

Here's how is rank them:

  1. Klipsch X10. I forgot how good these sound. They are the smallest and most comfortable earphones I've ever owned. The sound is accurate, detailed, and balanced. You can pick out every instrument and vocal part when listening to a fairly complicated piece such as Rex Tremendae Majestatis from Mozart's Requiem. The crackling record and clock mechanism at the beginning of Zedd's Hourglass sound true to life and the bass drops are both tight and full. These have to be some of the best bang for your buck earphones every made.

  2. B&O A8. These also have great sound in a slick package. However, they do not isolate any sound at all, which is a plus if you want to be aware of your surroundings. They'd be great at the gym or while riding a bike or mountain slope. The foam covers that come with A8s are both fragile and necessary for the best sound. The old covers that came with them disintegrated when I put them in my ears. Without them, bass is extremely lacking. Luckily, I had the spare set of foam that came with the headset.

  3. B&O Form 2. These sound similar to the A8 but I cannot recommend them unless you have a really small head. With them fully extended, I can't get the headphones to sit completely on my ears. I have to tilt the headstrap behind my head to listen to these.

  4. AKG. Okay, put next to some of the other headphones in the same price neighborhood, the AKGs really show their glaring weaknesses. There are no mids. Complicated music sounds muddy and muddled. On the other hand, they are very fun to listen to EDM and Hip Hop on.

  5. Phonak Audeo PFE122. These balanced armatures have no bass. Although they are very detailed, the lack of bass makes violins sound like they have no soul.

Klipsch X10 are great if you sleep on your side. They are very small and fit inside your ear so you'll never fell pressure from the pillow.

I typically sleep on my back, so I prefer my Sennheiser 558s.

I understand, but believe there is little justification for $300 ear buds. Especially since the pictures shows it being used with an iPod. If it was professional gear I might be able to understand.
