The Koss DJ100 is a decent set of headphones that happen to have a Mono switch and are pretty cheap at the moment if you don't want to worry about changing settings on your devices or downmixing everything.

These KOSS headphones are far better and on sale for $40.

Do this, but with these headphones or these.

  • Budget $50-100 USD - Very flexible (up to $150 if the difference is that significant)
  • Location Baltimore, Maryland
  • Source Laptop and iPhone
  • Requirements For Isolation Not much, dorm room and library usage.
  • Preferred Type of Headphone On/over ear. No in ear please. Something comfortable and not stand-outish. Bland? I guess is the word I'm looking for.
  • Past Headphones Astro A30 and A40. The former broke (like 2 hours ago, put em on and .. snap), hence the search for music only headphones (the A40's are fine for my stationary and gaming needs). A40 is solid, but obviously not easy to lug around, and the neon orange I have doesn't deflect attention very well.
  • Preferred Music Electronic music. Mainly Drum and Bass (B1) (B2) and Electro (E1). I also listen to alternative music, but not as much. (A1) Whatever Chvrches , 3oh!3, and Panic at the Disco are - maybe it's pop, I don't know and I don't care, I like it.

Extra comments: detachable mic would be nice, in line possible. NOT a necessity. Just be cool to have the option, ya know? Build quality and comfort above sound quality. After breaking one pair of headphones (albeit they were old) I'm paranoid about snapping others. I can buy another pair of A30's for 50 used or 100 new, so I thought I'd shop around for something better.

Here's some possibilities of things I'm considering. If they aren't good choices for me, then at least you know what style I'm looking for.

Koss also has a lifetime warranty. I have broken my ProDJ 100's like 3 times and have gotten a replacement every time.

u/Teknofiliak · 2 pointsr/headphones

Koss ProDJ100s. I really like them so far. Comfortable and they sound great.

If anyone is interested, the stand is actually a Kamenstein Banana Hanger where I heat-shrinked the exposed metal hangers for better grip and less chance of ruining the headphones.

u/steamwhistler · 2 pointsr/headphones

These bad boys are supposed to be quite good-sounding for the price, with excellent build quality. The only thing that might not be ideal if you're planning to use them on the go is the fact that the cable is a coiled 8 footer. But otherwise I think these fit the bill for you perfectly. (And they will, in all likelihood, be a sound upgrade from your Skullcandies.)

u/CrisKrossed · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I have this and this, Great sound quality, and really comfortable, and the mic sounds amazing. I've had people tell me they thought I had a professional mic, or something like a blu mic. The headphones you can get on sale for less than $50 normally, especially with the buying season coming up.

Koss ProDJ100 are like 40$ shipped on Amazon right now

Budget - $50 MAX

Source - Gaming Laptop and a 4th gen iPod Touch

Requirements for Isolation - Isolation isn't that big of an issue for me, some isolation would be nice because I currently share a room with 2 friends.

Preferred Type of Headphone - Full-Sized, Circumaural. Don't have a preference between open and closed

Preferred Tonal Balance - Bass is nice

Past Headphones - Panasonic RP-HTF600 Loved them but the cord was very long and had to be wrapped up when I was walking around with them, which I think led to the cord giving out.

Preferred Music - All kinds of Electronic stuff, vaporwave, trap, that kind of thing. Also a lot of Hip Hop and Alt. Rock

I was thinking about the Koss ProDJ100 Headphones, so if anyone has any experience with those I'd be grateful for a quick review.

I have those guys, but in white. From the looks of it, seems to be new but open box. Seller has a really high rating though, so I think you'll be pretty safe.

Had these for a time, and despite their Beats knock-off appearance they're objectively good headphones. Look them up on Head-Fi if you don't believe me. I can't do on-ear because of glasses, but there's another option if you want wireless and can do on-ear.

Head-Fi forum likes these, haven't used them personally but they're cheap and well-reviewed.

/u/theyield who is a complete whore when it comes to nice headphones claims the modestly priced Koss ProDJ 100's modded with the ATH-M50 earpads are the best thing he has heard Since.... He sold his D2000's.. He also just sold his HD2598's and Grado 325i's...

Check some suggestions on the head fi guide too. http://www.head-fi.org/a/headphone-buying-guide

Still closed? Some feautures like detachable cable might not be there in this price range.

Also sony has good products that are probably your best bet for finding in retail stores. The XB and MDR series is solid. You really can't go wrong with sony. Guitar center will have a good selection as well. This price range is very competitive so you should be safe sticking to these brands along with sennheiser.

I got mine on sale when they were like $35. They've been awesome.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys! I think I might go with these though

as they are cheap and many people say that they are worth much more. Unless anybody has any cons of these that I may have missed?

I've been using a pair of these headphones I borrowed from a friend for the past few months. The cord is not detachable, but for the price tag they're not bad at all. A little lacking in the low end though in my opinion, you may find it a little harder to beatmatch without jacking up your cue volume with these. I personally find the ear pads can be a little uncomfortable with extended use, but if that's a problem for you I know people replace them with the Audio-Technica ATH-M50 ear pads and they are apparently more comfortable and improve the sound a bit. Haven't had any real issues with them though, they get loud enough and have a mono/stereo switch so you can use just one ear if you need to, and they're pretty sturdy as well (everything is made of metal besides the top of the headband, which is hard plastic). The cord is coiled and stretches pretty far, I want to say around 8 ft. at full extension. If you end up having any more questions about this specific model don't hesitate to ask!

Unfortunately as a high-school student without a paying summer job, I need to pinch all the pennies that I can.

This is the link to the amazon page for them would you say they look alright?

Also, I've heard that some DJ On-Ears can get really uncomfortable after a few hours, but I'd be wearing these for a while at a time. You think I'd be fine?

u/spunkycorndog · 1 pointr/headphones
  • Budget - $100

  • Source - Iphone 5

  • Requirements for Isolation - moderate isolation preferred

  • Preferred Type of Headphone - Full sized, on or over ear fine

  • Preferred tonal balance - Balanced.

  • Past headphones - AE1's (don't kill me)
  • Preferred Music - a lot of lo-fi acoustic songs, some punk, rock

Basically looking for the best sound in this price range, and I don't really know too much about headphones. I'll be wearing them out and about (walking on busy streets), and in the library

something like the Koss ProDJ100's? ($72)

Or maybe the Sennheiser Momentum On-ears? ($90)

    Shure SRH440 ($97)

    Open to any suggestions!
u/sage439 · 1 pointr/headphones

So I'm looking at a few pairs to upgrade over my current $5 Panasonic IEM's:

  • Shure SRH240A
  • Koss ProDJ100
  • Creative Aurvana Live!

Main purpose is to be used at school with my Surface 3 or iPod Classic. Need it to drown out the outside noise as well as possible without sacrificing sound quality or comfort (yeah, picky, I know). As far as the actual sound goes, I don't want bass boosted or anything like that. I just want the bass to be accurate, and I want the highs to be bright and detailed.

Anyone have any thoughts on the pairs I'm looking at? Or any suggestions for something else in the same price range? Thanks for any help!
u/ReliableSource · 1 pointr/gadgets

I'm gonna recommend the Koss ProDJ100, they are easily the best sounding headphones for under $100 that I've heard, and they're also the most comfortable. They're a little, tiny bit mid-heavy and a little light on bass, despite what the packaging claims, but with these I've heard details in songs I'd never heard before. At $43 they're a fucking steal. If you check some of the reviews they've gotten, you'll see I'm not the only one who likes them.

I'm currently using the Koss DJPRO100, and let me tell you, they're great. I'm actually listening to Modestep with them right now. They're comfortable, durable, and sound awesome. A bit pricey, but more than worth it. Other suggestions here are all valid though, Sennheiser/Sony/Audio-Technica etc are all great. But stay the HELL away from Skullcandies. You're paying $30 extra for shitty headphones that happen to have graphics of skulls on them.

The rest doesn't appear to be necessary but I don't know if that's a referral link or normal stuff Amazon puts into its URLs.

If I search for the product and use the link I get this:
