You might fix this issue by changing MTU values but I don't think that will fix it in the long run.

I would recommend a different router. The only OpenWRT router I can recommend would be the Linksys WRT1900ACS. However, if you want something cheaper that will do its job well then I would go with Linksys N900 $60 USD. It doesn't support openWRT though. If money is no issue, go for an enterprise access point. If you give me a budget I can point you to the best access points/routers.

I have 75mbps down from xfinity. And have this router. https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-Dual-Band-Anywhere-EA4500/dp/B007IL7AKM

How big of a difference would i notice by using ASUS RT-ACRH13 Dual-Band 2x2 AC1300 Wifi 4-port Gigabit Router with USB 3.0 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LXL1AR8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jOSwybSBKRM4S

-Linksys EA4500

-TP-LINK TL-WR841N

-Been working great with about 15 perk devices and some netflix streaming on multiple devices at the same time without problem.

[this is the one] (https://www.amazon.com/Linksys-Wireless-Dual-Band-Anywhere-EA4500/dp/B007IL7AKM/ref=sr_1_1?) I'm looking at purchasing; hoping I can disable the 5Ghz frequency? not so sure, though.

I am waiting to spend big bucks on an AC router until the standard is set in stone, hopefully sometime in the next year or so. The Nighthawk AC1900 is definitely a beast, but it's pushing your budget and might not get all the range you want. You could get 2 of these Linksys EA4500 or 1 and another cheaper access point and get better coverage and performance overall.

I like my Linksys. they are a little over 100 new but amazon has a "like new" one for $75 shipping and all.

I have a Linksys EA4500 and have had tremendous success with it. At the time I bought it I read multiple "top 5 performing routers" lists with breakdowns from multiple sites and this router was on every single one of them. I stream netflix, download torrents, game, have my TiVo box connected to it as well as multiple iPads/iPhones, and a laptop or two. Everything works well on it, and its wireless range is pretty awesome in my experience. Even in a crowded apartment complex. The series has gotten flack due to the app based part, but you DO NOT have to use that firmware if you do not want to. I actually chose to give it a try after a while because I liked being able to manage the network from an iPhone app.
EDIT: I wanted to add that I've had this router for about a year now.
