I just plugged the computer into my 42" LG tv, I had a spare audio cable lying around and it works like a charm

Android devices have native external Mouse / Keyboard support. You just need one of these: USB OTG cable

The mouse shows up on the screen like a regular mouse would, and functions as you would expect. Keyboards work like you're typing on the computer.

I currently have this keyboard / mouse: Logitech MK520

It bundles a wireless keyboard and mouse to one USB receiver. This saves battery life on the device because the keyboard / mouse are powered by AA batteries.

So that just leaves resolution. On most phones, it'd be hell to try to read small text, but some phones like the Galaxy S4 have a full 1920x1080 screen. It's still only a 5" screen, but the resolution is there.

So the hardware exists. We just need Big Picture to run on these devices.

The keyboard is great although as a developer I miss the context button the right alt and ctrl. The mouse is alright for the couch but a tad too small for my hand to always use it, have another on on my desk. Range is good, although it's only 5 feet between receiver and mouse/keyboard.

I can't say with confidence, but I think you would have a better chance with a powered usb hub. I don't think there is anything that would prevent a hub from working but it would probably largely depend on your specific hardware.

My only experience has been with RF LINK 2-Port HDMI USB KVM Switch

It actually has two extra usb ports besides the mouse/keyboard.

If you just need one extra port, another option might be to pick up a keyboard/mouse combo that goes through a single usb connection (Specifically, we use the Logitech Wireless Combo Mk520 With Keyboard and Mouse with our switch.

I might have a powered USB hub around here somewhere that I could test with my kvm just to report to you if it works, but it might be buried too deep for me to find... and again it might just depend on the specific hardware.

If it were me, I'd probably just try a powered USB hub since you can pick one up fairly cheap.

I actually went from a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic 4000 to this one, and I'm pretty happy with it. It's not an amazing keyboard, but it's one of the better cheap ones I've used.

Also the peripheral selection on pcpartpicker kind of sucks. I bought this for my dad and he seems to be liking it a lot. ive used it a few times myself and it works perfect. logitech has always been a good brand for me.

What about this?

I have a pretty good grasp on what I a going to get as far as my actual computer, but now I want to think about peripherals. I need a screen, keyboard, and mouse. I plan on upgrading the mouse relatively soon down the line, but want a filler for now. With that said how are these as options:

Main use will be gaming (non competitive mostly, think RTS games, killing floor, and Minecraft mainly), Netflix and general browsing, as well as work (I need a decently comfortable keyboard).

This might be more or less what you're looking for.

I use the Logitech G602 wireless gaming mouse, the G13 Board for gaming, and a K520 Wireless Keyboard for standard typing.

The dedicated gaming board takes a little getting used to, but once you've figured it out and got it set up the way you like, you'll wonder how you ever played using just a regular keyboard.
