Reddit reviews Logitech Speaker System Z523 with Subwoofer

Anyone have experience with their speakers? Something like the Z523? Looking some quality speakers in the sub-$100 category, and might as well do if there's a sale.

Also, it looks like it's at least a 40% sale on most Logitech products today as well.

First off, $50 for a mono, unpowered speaker? No thanks.

Second, ceramics have terrible acoustic properties; there's a reason that both musical instruments and speaker enclosures are usually made out of metals, woods and plastics: they sound better. I'm not sure of the exact physics behind it, but I believe the plasticity of the materials gives them a wider range of frequencies. Glasses and ceramics are very brittle and, I believe, will tend to have a very narrow range of harmonic frequencies. This is why glasses and ceramics tend to only be used in instruments that make a single frequency: jugs and bells.

If you want unpowered mp3 speakers, I'd recommend these Sonys.

If you want great sound for under $50, get a Logitech or Altec Lansing powered 2.1 system like this or this.

If you want to save up for a top of the line set of speakers, you can store your money in one of these handy ceramic pigs. Nowadays it's probably safer than a real bank.

Here is what I would do if you wanted good speakers for a desk. They are a bit big but should sound really nice. This also tops out your budget so keep that in mind.

• Pioneer BS22 $97 with a Lepai 2020 $20. You'll probably need some wire and a 3.5 to RCA cable
  
  I would also look at some nicer computer speakers as an alternative. I know I'll get some hate for this but realistically if you want something closer to the $75 mark this your only option. Here are some sets I would look at.
  
  
• Altec Lansing $85 - These sound great. Bass and treble controls are a great feature.
  
  
• Logitech z523 $85 - These should sound good for just about any kind of music. It's not audiophile quality but should do a fine job.
  
  
• Bose Companion 2 III $90 - I know I know...Blose. I normally wouldn't recommend them but they actually sound good for smaller speakers. If you want something that sounds good with no sub these are it. If you like EDM/Techno/Rap/Hip-hop these are not for you look above.

How about this? It's a decent Logitech 2.1. It has 2 satellites and a sub. It's only rated at 40 watts RMS but it should be decent for use at a desk.

Budget: Between $100 and $200.

Just looking for something that will last a long time, and will sound amazing. The local Logitech 2.1 speakers lasted me for two years in Korea, but the subwoofer drowned out the highs a lot. Kinda looking for an upgrade.

They've got speakers out the back too "360 degree sound" or something that I don't really use so that you could put them in the middle of a room I guess, but they have worked well for my computer setup.

I have the Logitech Z523. If you love bass, it's a great system. If you like a more balanced sound, pick something else. They do fit your criteria though.

I have been using Logitech Z523 for the last couple of years as my desktop speakers and I must say they are quite decent.

I have some ancient Creative I-Trigue 3400 speakers that I've been using for nearly 10 years now. Would the Z523 or Z623 be a noticeable improvement?

I used to have this speaker system. I must say the Logitech 523 system is significantly better, for not much more money (at full price).

Edit: This Z313 system used to cost $60. It seems it is now significantly cheaper, even without a sale price.

They are cheaper than the suggested Klipsch ones, and I don't know how they'd compare. For me they are plenty loud, though I guess if you're asking for loudness, they may need to be even louder than that. I usually keep them at about half volume and am already afraid of bothering the neighbors. The bass is nice and boomy. When I play Bad Company 2, the explosions seem very realistic, and shake up my room.

I bought the 750W PSU a year ago cuz my last one broke and based on the quote from the website I'm not using anything near that. Regardless, I plan on keeping it.

Ah, good to know about the mounting. If stock is good enough, I'll just skip the bigger fan then. I take it there's no issue with ordering one off amazon if I really needed one anyways.

You said A headset, but yeah I could. It's just hard to find a good headset that comfortable that has a good mic or any mic at all. It's also kind of weird wearing them for a long time because it gets hot and my ears feel weird. I also get headaches often.

These are gonna be your best bet. I have them and they are great. The sub woofer is very powerful and is never shy of power.

I'm not much of an audiophile, but I use this with my computer/xbox setup and I have no complaints. I like them because I think they sound pretty good and they're fool-proof/easy to set up.

There shouldn't be that much difference between the Z337 and the Z4, so long as you don't use the Z337's via Bluetooth (Bluetooth audio = garbage).

The suggested replacements for the Z4 would be the Z523 or the Z533.

Logitech Z523s

They have great sound. I mean, they're not studio monitors or anything but for day to day music listening. They're fantastic. :)

Ive had several, and In my experience you get what you pay for. I have a set of BOSE Companion 3 now and they are fantastic (albeit more expensive). Whatever you get, you should have a separated sub-woofer and 2 higher range speakers, so 3 pieces total.

I'm going to college soon and I wanted to get some good speakers for my dorm room. I'm into EDM and I've confirmed my roommate is too, so I want really good quality ones with great bass.

My friend got the Logitech Speaker System Z623 and I was very impressed when I heard them. I want something like those, but I'd rather not have the $100+ price tag. I mean if I really have to, I'll get those, but I'd rather not spend that much.

I was looking at the Z523 and the Z506, but I guess they aren't as good. But is the difference noticeable?

I asked my friend and he said a good way to tell the quality of a system is the frequency range. And I guess the more watts, the better bass.

If anyone could recommend some good ones for a good price I'd be grateful. Thanks!

bought my first one and was completely satisfied, got my table shaking a bit. I bought another set second hand that was like completely new for 30 bucks and then I couldn't live without them, my PC came with logitech LS21 and so im using a 7.1 channel setup but down have a centre and bass. I'd rated it 10/10 but I haven't tried other speakers so im not really reliable

Fair enough - but a cursory glance at amazon, and if you're looking for 10'' woofers you're spending this guy's budget a least a couple of times over and that'll still only get you one speaker which I think we can all agree on is just silly. I said a subwoofer isn't optional because at the price point, the speakers you're going to be looking at just aren't going to have the size or power needed to get decent sub-bass. Honestly, if you want something super easy to set up and won't break your bank I was using these logitech speakers for years until I bought my stereo set up. Loads of volume, and it has a bass knob you can turn down if neighbours are getting pissy.

Atm, I'm trying to shoot for something ~$100 (hence why I ignored the suggestion at the top), and had ideas of a few. Here are 2 of em, what's your opinion?
