Love to Dream Swaddle UP, Blue, Small, 8-13 lbs, Dramatically Better Sleep, Allow Baby to Sleep in Their Preferred arms up Position for self-Soothing, snug fit Calms Startle Reflex
Swaddling has been around for ages as it helps to prevent the startle reflex. But forcing the baby’s arms to their sides or over their chest prevents two natural behaviors that frustrate the baby and they fight to get their hands free.First - Over 90% of babies sleep with their ARMS UP around their head when placed on their back to sleep. This is simply a baby’s natural and preferred way to sleep, just like in the womb!Second - All babies are born with the need to SELF-SOOTHE by touching their face and sucking on their hands as they did in the womb. This medically proven behavior is how a baby calms and falls asleep on their own. Traditional swaddling prevents this. The patented wings on the Swaddle UP allow the baby to both sleep with their arms in their preferred ARMS UP position and gives enough movement so they can SELF-SOOTHE, all while calming down the startle reflex. The snug fit from our 4-way stretch fabric of 93% Cotton and 7% Elastane creates a familiar and secure feeling just like in the womb to calm the Moro (startle) reflex. Does not contain flame retardants or any harmful chemicals.

My son was the same. It’s to be expected. It’s a baby and everything is new and scary. She wants to feel your warmth and hear your heartbeats. My husband and I were hallucinating from no sleep. We ended up taking shifts and introducing a bottle earlier because we were worried for all of our health. Don’t give up on the bassinet. Keep trying even if she does wake up every time, she’ll sleep a little longer in the bassinet each time. Our LO is 7 weeks now and I wake up every night because he’s slept too long and I get scared something is wrong. Lol. Either way no sleep.

Edit: I should clarify the bottle we used was recommended by our lactation consultant. Tommy tippee or baby Brezza so that he wouldn’t have nipple confusion. my husband would feed him pumped milk. He still prefers breastfeeding to this day over the bottle, but it helped give me time to sleep a few hours and for my husband to take over! I also ordered these swaddles. Our son would bust out of every swaddle we put him in because he wanted his arms up by his face. These were a life saver.

Let me edit it down for you. Here's what you actually need from the get go. The rest can be purchased as you go. I have twins, so pardon any plural pronouns that slip by.

-------

Baby clothes

  • 4-8 onesies (wide head openings and loose legs)
  • 4-8 undershirts (snaps at neck or wide head openings, snaps under crotch) These are basically onsies.
  • 4-8 one-piece pajamas (Get the carters footie jumpsuits that zip up)
  • 2 blanket sleepers for winter baby for the first month or so, they sleep in a swaddle. Get zip up ones like this
  • 1-3 sweaters or jackets (front buttoned)
  • 1-3 rompers or other dress-up outfits Don't expect much romping for the first few months. If you want to dress them up cute, that's optional.
  • 4-7 socks or booties (shoes are unnecessary until baby walks They are going to be lumps for a while. You have time for this. You will also be relying on footie pajamas because they are really, really easy.
  • 1-3 hats (broad-brimmed for a summer baby, soft cap that covers ears for a winter baby) Nope. Remember, this kid isn't playing in the snow. She's living in a heated indoor world.
  • No-scratch mittens Nail clippers.
  • Bunting bag or fleece suit for a winter baby Again, not unless you are heading out across the tundra with baby in tow. When you move her in the car seat, throw extra swaddles on her.

  • Firm, flat mattress that fit snugly in crib (less than two fingers should fit between mattress and crib) [yes]

  • Dresser [yes]
  • Toy basket [yes]
  • Go to a military surplus store and get a red flashlight. You don't want to turn on the lights to check for poopy diapers

    Baby bedding

  • 1-3 washable crib mattress pads
  • 2-4 fitted crib sheets [yes]
  • 4-6 soft, light receiving blankets [yes]
  • 1-2 heavier blankets (for colder climates) - Caution with these. Blankets and kids can be a bad mix. Also, keep the house warm. It's worth the extra cost to keep the house at 75 this first year.

    Diapers

  • Changing table or cushioned changing pad for low dresser or bureau, with safety strap or railing [yes]
  • Diaper pail and liners [yes. Avoid the super fancy ones. You just need a plain air tight. Avoid any with proprietary bags. Ideally, it shoudl use the same bags you have in your kitchen)
  • Diaper bag [yes]
  • Diaper cream [yes]
  • Unscented baby wipes (causes less irritation) [yes]
  • Soft washcloths [yes]
  • 6-10 dozen cloth diapers and 6-8 diaper covers, or 2-3 5+ large boxes of disposable newborn-size diapers. [Many parents think they will go cloth diapers because of the environment, then they get pimp slapped by reality.

  • Baby bathtub [yes]
  • Baby soap [get a soap/shampoo combo.]
  • Baby shampoo
  • 2-4 soft towels or hooded baby towels

  • Gentle laundry detergent Your regular stuff will work.

    Feeding

  • 10-16 bottles and nipples, both 4- and 8- ounce (if fed strictly by bottle, baby will go through about 10 in the 4-ounce size per day) [We have twins and have 6 bottles. Use the playtex drop ins, super simple]
  • Pump (if you plan to breastfeed)
  • Milk storage bags (if you plan to breastfeed)
  • Nursing pads (if you plan to breastfeed)
  • Nipple cream (if you plan to breastfeed)
  • Nursing pillow (if you plan to breastfeed) Also good for bottle feeders. Just get one. Boppy is good]
  • Bottle brush [optional if you use the drop ins]
  • Dishwasher basket for small items the cutlery basket works just fine.
  • 4-8 bibs You don't need these until you start food at 6 months.
  • Burp cloths [Get a metric fuckton]
  • 2-4 pacifiers

    Health

  • Baby nail clippers or blunt scissors
  • Baby thermometer
  • Petroleum jelly and sterile gauze (for circumcision care) We tend to frown upon circumcising girls.
  • First aid kit [you should already have a standard one. A standard one will do]

    Baby gear

  • Infant or convertible car seat
  • Stroller or infant carrier
  • Baby swing or bouncer Can wait. You can't do this any earlier than 4-5 months anyways.
  • High chair Can wait. They don't start food till 6 months.

I also note a lot of your numbers are way high. Even with twins, we don't have this many of lots of stuff.

Newborns have a startle reflex that makes them feel like they are falling if they don't have edges to touch (like in the womb). Little dude hated swaddles too - he wanted his hands up by his head.

You may want to try a Swaddle Up or a Zipadee Zip

I know I'm late to the party, but have you tried the Swaddle Up? My daughter also likes to sleep with her hands up by her face. (My grandmother said it's a sign of a happy baby, and she would know because she raised seven of them.) This hands-up happy baby loved her Swaddle Up. She slept well and never houdini-ed her way out of it.

Try the Love to Dream swaddles or something similar where the baby's arms are up. Thats the only one that worked for us. They make for when they get bigger where the arms zip off. So you can transition to one arm out and then both.
