Yay he is inside! He looks sooo cuddly! Your set up quite cozy with the blankets, though yes a tad small… Will you be getting that xpen from Amazon soon so he can come live in your room?

How is he doing now – eating ok? Are you able to give him veggies? Btw try not to feed him too much pellets: general Serving size - 1/4 to 1/2 cup pellets per 6 lb bunny. So if you bunny is less than 6 lb he needs less pellets. But he does need veggies (I mentioned good ones in my guide I sent to you).

If I may suggest a couple things on your current set up – get your bun a heavy ceramic bowl (one he won’t flip easily) with water instead of a bottle. It is a much more natural way for a bunny to drink and he will drink more.

Also, try to get your bun a larger litter pan. It will tremendously help with litter training (bunnies can be litter trained)! Like a plastic one that you can get for cats for example... The litter box should be larger than the bunny, be filled with bunny-appropriate litter (note that pine is toxic to bunnies), and have hay right in it. It is also a good idea to cover the box with something like a sheet hanging to make a sort of tent as bunnies like to feel safe when they poop and will likely chose a safe spot for that on a regular basis. Bunnies often like to lounge around in their litter box and eat while they poop. So good-sized box and fresh hay in it will always encourage them to use it. Clean the litter box daily (occasionally use vinegar and water to disinfect and get rid of any slight smell). Then to litter train everytime the bunny poops or pees, pick those up and put them in his litter box to create the scent… also give your bunny a small treat every time you see him use and in no time he will just start using it. Once the bunny is litter trained you could even let him roam your house and it will be so much nicer and clean for your both! Do you plan to get the bunny neutered? It would really help with litter training and his health.

See links below for step by step on how to litter train bunny and what is good litter (if you must you can ever tear up/shred a lot of old newspaper or phone books, just don’t use pine shavings).

Also do put a hiding house in his enclosure – a carboard box with a hole in for him to go in will work even and can be easily replaced when chewed. Bunnies need a place to hide and feed safe when they want to. You can also make a cheap DIY hayrack for your bunny to encourage him to eat more hay vs just putting on the ground. For example just take a large box, fit it with hay and cut a hole in it. Then secure sideways to the cage walls such the bunny can eat from the opening.

It also looks like the bunny’s butt might be a tad wet possibly from peeing and then being on wet ground,, this could cause painful skin irritation/urine scald or attract flies to your bunny that will lay horrible eggs on him. Try to put some more absorbent napkins in the cage for him to pee on (this will go away as soon as he learns to go to his litter box as the right litter will absorb all the moisture). You can throw them away when they get used up… they are pretty cheap. In the meantime, you can wipe hi behind with a damp warm towel (do not give him a bath as it is never recommended for rabbits) and dry him of to ensure he stays dry and doesn’t get skin issues.

Try to take a look at these videos and possibly add a couple of things into the cage for him to make it even nicer and keep him happier.

Do make a couple of toys for him if you cannot by (the guide I sent you has links to great and very cheap toys also). Try stuffing a paper bag with some hay, closing it up and giving to him. Also take an the carboard papertowel or toilet paper roll stuff it with hay and give to him.

I hope soon you will have that xpen and be able to bring him up with you. Bunnies are very social animals and he needs your love and attention. If left alone in the basement he will likely get very sad and depressed, and then if that happened he could stop eating and go into GI statis. He would really have a better life with you and your room!
