Pretty easy to find upgrade/replacement cables, even with the proprietary plug housing.

Yep ZMF cowhides they make a big difference in the sound quality and comfort. The cable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00N0XP2ES/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I actually liked the cable so much I got the same one for my Sennheisers that you can't fully see in the picture.

These are good quality cables. Bought these because I hated the stock cable the m50x and m40x that it comes with.

This cable is pretty hefty but a little short:

Or you could buy these (remove the locking mechanism which is SUPER easy) and use any aux cable you'd like:

This cable will work in both headphones no problem.

u/Zio-X · 2 pointsr/HeadphoneAdvice

And the cables connect to both ear pieces, correct? I wouldn't be able to use a shorter cable (if it's not relatively short to the following link already?) https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Replacement-Technica-Headphones-1-2meters/dp/B00N0XP2ES.

I've watched a few reviews and the audio quality seems to not be too too great, but that's from people who've had better audio headphones, so I'm lost.

I've also heard the cable falls out of phones kinda easily. "The only negative point I can give to these is the cheap feel of the braces around the cups and the jacks being threaded for the 1/4" adapter. The weight of the connector causes them to easily slide out of phones and other devices."

I'm unsure if I misunderstood or what.

almost forgot about the cables it comes with ,if you do decide on the m40x get another cable cause the coiled is ugly to go out in public with. cable for 13$ so that would put it at 93 total

I think a closed pair of headphones is most versatile because it can be used in more settings. I'd go with M40x with a pad change. It's a solid, affordable headphone with excellent build quality and doesn't require amplification to sound good.

I run mine with Alpha pads from Mr. Speakers and this: https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Replacement-Technica-Headphones-1-2meters/dp/B00N0XP2ES

Sounds awesome, comfort is amazing, and can be powered reasonably well from just the phone (I use Fiio Q1).

i don't know how to help you other then telling you to go non-threaded. or if you have the m50x maybe you could get another cable that fits? like this http://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Technica-ATH-M50x-ATH-M40x-Headphones/dp/B00N0XP2ES

You could grab a third party cable like this one https://www.amazon.com/Replacement-Technica-ATH-M50x-ATH-M40x-Headphones/dp/B00N0XP2ES from amazon.

u/Dallagen · 1 pointr/headphones

Your phone jack doesn't really like the m50x plug, you need a new cable I'd say.

u/verifitting · 1 pointr/headphones

Something like newfantasia would do: https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Replacement-Technica-Headphones-1-2meters/dp/B00N0XP2ES/

or do you really mean the wire inside the headphones?

u/Flubberding · 1 pointr/headphones

Luckily, those can be replaced easily and for not too much money. I found this one, but it's one of the first I saw. There might be better ones, but I think it'll be fine.

u/ferthur · 1 pointr/Twitch

I'm not sure, it's a smaller connector that goes into the headphones, and has a small locking slot in it. You may be able to find a third party who makes replacements though.

Here is a quick result on Amazon, and from Audio Technica themselves, coiled 1.2m, straight 1.2m, and straight 3m. It should be noted, that the m50x comes with all three cables, and one screw on 1/4" adapter. AT charges $25 for the 1.2m cable and $35 for the 1.2m coiled and 3m straight.

I've never had issues with my cables, but I've seen off-brand replacement cables:

https://www.amazon.com/NewFantasia-Replacement-Technica-Headphones-1-2meters/dp/B00N0XP2ES

Probably not as nice, but at least you aren't SOL if ATH stops making 'em.

> Can I get a short portable cable like the one the m50x comes with for it?

sure there are

> How comfy are they compared to the sofas that are the DT770s?

They suck terribly compared to the velour Dt770 Studio...really no chance whatsoever. Much higher clamp, stiffer pads and more pressure on top of the head.

> How great is the noise insulation to and from the outside?

that I can't tell :( maybe /u/metal571 can give you his impressions on their isolation. Given the fact that the M40X has strong clamp and pleather pads I'd imagine the isolation is at least comparable to the DT770, if not better. For library use the M40X will be totally fine.
