It's a bit tough to keep it in that budget. My personal preference is an NVR (Network Video Recorder), storing video 24/7 on a local harddrive. But going that route is going to be over-budget.

Let me be clear, I have no personal experience with the cameras that I'm about to link to. They use your home 2.4GHz wi-fi to send AV signal to an app. Storage is on a microSD card (not included) inside the camera. It's likely that you can also record on your smart phone by using the app, but again, I don't know for sure. Read the reviews and make your own decisions. You can get 4 for under $150 USD, not including microSD cards. I don't know how many cameras the app will support.

I've had security cams up outdoors now for a bit over 3 years now, after someone jumped my short fence and drug my 200 pound generator over said fence, and will pass along some of my thoughts and observations.

  1. Whatever camera you decide on, get at least 1080p. Under 720p is pointless. 720p is Okay at best, but recognizing anyone more than a few feet away is very hard. 960p (this is what I currently have, am getting ready to move up to 1080p) is usable, but if someone is more than about 10 feet from the camera, recognizing a face becomes difficult. In reality, anything over 1080p is going to be over-budget.

2a) Mounting: This kind of camera is going to be a Catch-22 situation. You will need to be able to get at it fairly easily to access the microSD card, but that means that others can also probably get to it too, unless you have it mounted on a 2nd story or somewhere that has limited access. But if someone steals your camera, they have also stolen the video stored on the microSD card inside.

2b) Mounting: Even if you only use your phone and don't intend to use the microSD card, you will still need to be able to access the camera for regular cleaning. I am in a rural area, and have to clean the lenses almost every evening due to spider webs. The IR night vision light draws the bugs, which in turn draws the spiders. You usually won't be able to see the thin strands of web during the day, but the IR night vision REALLY reflects off the web (and bugs).

2c) Mounting: Power requirements. I'm going to assume that you will need to plug them into 120VAC using the included power adapter. Many of this style of camera are actually 12VDC cameras. Mine are. Over the past few years, I have been able to put in some 12v deep cycle batteries that allow me to run my cams in areas where I don't have 120VAC. Just be aware that you will need power nearby.

2d) Mounting: Distance from Wi-fi router. Before mounting the cam to a wall or something, make sure that it will communicate with your wifi from that location. Since I don't have these cams, I can't tell you how far away they will work.

I hope this helps. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
