I use this guy. It's folds over and the red plastic nubby things instantly clean it out. Sure, it's a unitasker. But it's a common task and it excels at it. Cleaning is a snap.
Mine has little nubs on the outside that you can bend back and use to press the garlic out of the holes. Works great. I never use it, though.

Do you have a garlic press? It's a game changer. I generally don't go for unitaskers in the kitchen, but I also hated mashing/cutting garlic. I have this oxo brand one and I use it allll the time. I don't even peel the cloves - just separate them and it's super easy to use and clean too. Worth the $15 investment, to me anyway!
Get a garlic press
Put the unpeeled clove in and just press. The pressure bursts the paper 'skin' and the garlic comes out crushed and ready to use. Takes seconds.
