I got one of these after finally picking up a copy of "Shadow of the Colossus". Made a huge difference in quality on my 55" HDTV. Absolutely worth it. Highly recommend.

There are a ton of options. You can get this...

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00D875R5K/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469596247&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=ps2+hdmi+adapter&dpPl=1&dpID=41OwLCLnMfL&ref=plSrch

But I don't remember if the ps2 had component input on the back. If it does and it's not just one plug then you can get component to hdmi adapters.

Official Sony cables are overpriced IMO, at least here in Canada, likely due to Supply & Demand with them being discontinued most likely:

Here's 2 listings I found on amazon.ca:

$69.72+$5.54 shipping for used PS3 Cables: https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-Electronic-98044-Component-Playstation/dp/B000MIXFWA/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

Japan Import PS3 Cables, $214.37 and up for new or $65.72+$7.90 shipping and up for used: https://www.amazon.ca/Sony-Component-Cable-PlayStation-japan/dp/B000L35Z8I/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=

on eBay:

Used PS3 Cables that would come to a total of about $97.51 or make offer: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Sony-PlayStation-2-Component-YPbPr-Cable-OEM-Official-Sony-SCPH-10490-PS2-PS3/254161752255?hash=item3b2d3890bf:g:iQwAAOSwCnpciH8X

Brand new for $98: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/Official-Sony-PlayStation-2-PS2-PS3-Authentic-HD-Component-AV-Cable-BRAND-NEW/254206551255?hash=item3b2fe424d7:g:dDwAAOSww4JclBd4

I can get the PS2 to HDMI converter linked for less than the official cables, $39.49: https://www.amazon.ca/Panlong-Converter-Adapter-Output-Monitor/dp/B00D875R5K

This has existed for a while so what does the pound technology version do differently?

Get a PSTV then you can play it on the big screen.

You can also try one of these doodads:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00D875R5K/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

In my experience the PS3 plays PS1 games well, but you'll never get the exact right look on an LCD unless Sony were to introduce some sort of complex filter effects that correctly emulated the color bleeding, scanlines and phosphor glow that CRTs had.

u/Reygle · 1 pointr/techsupport

Something like this may be a better option, converts the proprietary PS2 output to HDMI.

Emulating is one of the easiest things you can do, most any video card today will have enough power to do so comfortably. What kind of card do you have? Is a TV not an option? Any of those converter boxes are going to intermittently work (just speaking from past experience here, you may be able to find a good one), and likely to have choppy video. They do have these guys if your monitor supports HDMI, seems like reviews are decent but again it's upscaled/modified video so its a total guess how well it will do:

there's this thing https://www.amazon.com/Panlong-Converter-Adapter-Output-Monitor/dp/B00D875R5K

I don't know how well it works. generic composite to hdmi do add some input lag and stretches the image into 16:9.

I got a 2002 toshiba crt with 3 inputs and an output for $20 at a thrift store. do some shopping those are your best bet.

I bought this exact adapter as it was recommended to me. my cousin showed me his slim PS2 hooked up to his samsung tv and it played 240p PS1 games and 480p PS2 games with no issues. I purchased the same one (from seller: DesignUS) and it also works perfectly for me on my lg tv. I also don’t need to the use usb cable to power it.

wanted to add I tried another one of these adapters before and it was the cheapest on amazon. it did not work. the one I linked above did.

ymmv though. good thing is you can always return it if it doesn’t work.

This guy worked for me. I just ran the audio to my receiver and have to change the receiver input.
