Small tip: Those "ball chains" come apart pretty easily. These braided steel keyrings are significantly more durable and can be "permanently" closed with some solder paste and some heat. Pass the cable through the car and your tag, squirt some paste inside the female end of the cable, screw together, and apply some heat to the screw ends (a regular lighter works fine) to melt the solder and seal it up. It's more costly, yes, but virtually permanent/indestructible without "extraordinary" methods.
